Interestingly, sales for the CR-V were down a little. Should be interesting to watch RDX sales numbers when the 2014 MDX comes out.

First month I have seen with RDX both leading Acura model sales and beating MDX. Looks like potential MDX buyers waiting for new 2014 models.

I can certainly believe it! Where I live, it seems like almost every other car on the road is an RX. That's another reason (besides higher cost) why I would not buy one. Here, the Camry and RX seem to be the most popular vehicles.

I am in the SF Bay Area as well and I fully agree with what you said. I find a lot (a LOT) of MDXs as well.

I live on the peninsula and here it seems Acura & Lexus have pretty decent sales volumes. Every other vehicle seems to be from Toyota or Honda Family.

Have started seeing a lot of new RDXs on my daily commute on 101.

Yeah, me too. Here in SLC I see at least one RX every time I am on the road, most days more than one. And I see a lot of MDXs and TLs. I am starting to see more 2013 RDXs, maybe one every two days.

Regards, Jim

I rarely see one on the roads in the western Chicago suburbs, but a neighbor three doors down has an Amber Brownstone tech, and another neighbor in my subdivision has an Amber Brownstone base 2wd. My wife can't tell them apart so she's always calling me and asking why I drove past the house

What about the two Korean SUV's and the Ford Edge for that matter? Yes I'm speaking of the Sorento and Santa Fe along with the Ford Edge.

What about them? Not luxury brands so they compete in a different cateogory.

They are intended also for world wide sales and thus they make more of them.

The RDX is a niche market for those that can afford a more upscale SUV. They are not competing with the Escape, trust me.

The numbers are important for me, cause they show how many more they are selling vs the Gen 1 RDX. Which means they made the right decision to change it the way they did.

The MDX has long been one of the best luxury type SUV's on the market....and the RDX is following in it's footsteps at a lower price point.

Then you add all the accolades it's been getting....and the recent "Top 10 Interiors."
Escapes and the like look all great, etc. in the showroom and a test drive....but, in 3 years or 5 yrs....which one is worth more % wise...and held up better??

I know.......the Acura product. And that's what is most important.

To be fair, Acura is not a luxury brand

Wow...I will stay out of this one. "Luxury" is truly...IMHO....is a very subjective term and thus many will argue for or against the RDX being in that category. For me...it's not a Rolls....but, it is in the "entry level of luxury SUV's. IMHO.

That's all I will say on this. Sounds like it might get a little "testy" here. Remember folks....there really is no "right or wrong" to this "luxury" discussion. Generally the answer is found by the overall label that most all auto mags, writers, etc, give the '13 RDX. If MOST of them feel it's an "entry level" or a "luxury level" SUV then we can probably say it is.
Have fun...let's be nice out there! LOL!!

I believe it is. It's marketed as such, the auto writers and CR include Acura whenever they do comparos and list industry categories, it has the track record and the warranty, the dealer experience and the public image. It may not be at the top of the luxury brands but there always has to be somebody that is at the bottom of a category and I have to admit that probably is where Acura is right now but it is still in the luxury category. Just because it may not be AS luxury as some of the other brands makes no difference. There are some aspects of BMWs like their 90s interiors that border on not being luxury too but they still are a luxury brand.

What definitive information do you have that it is not a luxury brand. Of course, that would not include information that is strictly your personal opinion.

I agree with Colorado guy that there probably is no absolute correct answer no matter what the auto writers say, etc. but I'd be interested in hearing why you don't think it is a luxury. I hope you don't cite bells and whistles and trinket type electonic gizmos that help you park etc. If that made a luxury car than a Kia Forte would be compared to a C class. Not gonna happen.

The lines where RDX and modelslike the Edge, Santa Fe, Sorento, even the GM pair Equinox and Terrain has blurred.

The line has blurred to fact that all of those bells and whistles you speak of is actually what got Acura started in the first place. Those "bells and whistles" as you call them were part of Acura advertisement to differentiate it from the Hondas. Just 3-4 years ago you would have heard the words "technology driven" mentioned in the same sentence as Acura.

For convenience, handles behind the second row of seats are designed to when pulled, release the backs of the seats to automatically fold down and create more storage room. A tri-angle back-up camera is standard, as well as keyless entry with push button start. Also standard Bluetooth hands free calling and Pandora music can be streamed wirelessly through the sound system. When upgrading to the Technology package, a powerlift tailgate is now included, along with an upgraded 60GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) based navigation system, this system enables 15GB of music to be stored.
Nowadays that applies to almost every auto brand in some way. I will give Acura credit for being first.

None of that however has managed to help Acura sell cars like they used too.

There is a reason for that; Everyone has it now at a lower price.
