The owner's manual suggests keeping the key tag number in a safe place in case an extra key is needed.

Can someone tell me where one might find the key tag number?

 

It should have come from the dealer as part of new car delivery. If you bought used, I believe, not positive the dealer can tell you via the VIN.

When I bought my 04TL, there was a very small metal tag attached to the key ring. That tag had the key code. You might want to check your owners manual another paperwork to see if it was taped to one of those. Other than that I would inquire at the dealer.

 

Thanks, I think I may have just found it. I looked through the envelope with all the paperwork and came across a little plastic coated paper tag with a bar code, a letter and three numbers. Is that it?

 

It could be. I actually haven't seen one in quite some time and don't know how they may have changed over the years. Mine was a 5 or 6 digit number pressed into that tag if I remember correctly.
Oh, and by the way, I have never needed or used it. So long as you have working keys/fobs, I doubt you will either. Again, I think the dealer can create a new key/fob if you manage to loose all sets and/or be completely locked out via the VIN. Seeing this is a new purchase, you can inquire with the dealer and answer for both of us

No problem and other members may be able to give you a solid answer prior to your first visit. Our recent car purchases have been CPO or private purchases so I am a little out of touch.

 

When I bought my 2013 in March, I asked about a key tag. I was told by the salesperson that the car doesn't come with one. If you lose your key the dealer will have the info based on your car's serial number is what I was told.

 

Our Acura came with what looks like a key tag on the one key. Laminated tag with a 4 digit code and a bar code. Not sure what else it would be for.

 

I believe this is true. Pretty sure a new key can be made by the dealer based on the VIN number.
