HID Out ... again
HID Out ... again
Hi everyone,
I've got a 2015 Acura RDX with HIDs. About a 18 months ago, the passenger HID stopped working. Took it in and both the ballast and igniter was replaced, which fixed the issue (~$1000 CAD for parts and labour!). Now, the same light is out again. I tried swapping the bulbs left/right and it's not the bulb. I also swapped fuses and that's ok too. Is there a relay for the HID? The relays in the fusebox aren't labelled and I can't find a diagram that shows which one. Anything else I should check before I order a new ballast and igniter? I'm looking at aftermarket ballast/igniter at this point.
Thanks in advance!
James

try swapping ballast igniter left to right to rule that out! I'm really surprised that they're going out so quickly, it might be a grounding issue or something else, it shouldn't be dying that quickly..

Yeah, my understanding is that the ballast and igniter should last the lifetime of the car. I'll probably just order the parts (aftermarket should be ~ $100) so if I'm pulling the bumper and headlight out, i might as well have the parts on hand.
The repair was done 18 months ago and they want to charge a few hundred bucks for a "diagnostic" again...

Man I can't believe the OEM ballast and Igniter are the problems, that's super rare, especially after being replaced.
In this case given how much you've already paid to try to OEM fix it... I'd almost say it's better to go aftermarket, Get a good kit from Morimoto, Xenon Depo, or the like. And replace the entire ballast, igniter, D2S setup.
You'll end up with a bit of a relay job or at least an adapter harness-per-side. But I believe they offer conversion kits that let you plug into the low voltage side of your OEM harness and then into an aftermarket 9006 size ballast system (or just cut-splice a 9006 end on your OEM harness too if you're braver). That should sort out any issues I figure. --> or at the least... if it STILL causes a problem, you can rest assured your issue is further up the line, and not related to your HID bulbs, Igniters, or balasts.
