HFL Observation

First let me state that I haven't done much with the HFL stuff, so if this has already been discussed, sorry

I got one of the cheap LG L34C smartphones for use on Straighttalk. When I tried to receive text messages, it seemed to be intermittent. After checking some more it seems that if the text message contains emoticons that it causes the system to stop receiving new text messages until the power is removed. Not sure if the software knows how to interpret the emoticons and then it seems to get hung up trying to figure it out

Anybody know more about this?

I don't, I'm still trying to figure out why I don't get any text messages, I have a iPhone4s with the latest OS and all I get is an error message. I'm sure someone here will be able to help you. Good Luck!

I think I'm good as long as the text doesn't include any smiley faces etc. Again I think Acura should go back to the drawing board on their Bluetooth and Nav software

RDX should buy some older generation software from Garmin. This Gen 1 stuff we now have is pitiful. Like watching an old Pac Man game from the 70's.....

A friend of mine with a new Hyundai road with me for the first time in my 2015 RDX..... playing with the GPS looking for some heads up and 3D view. He was trying to be nice..... He said you paid "how much" for your tech package. I told him $700..... I was embarrassed. Acura should be too....

The tech package includes much more than the nav - but - let's just talk nav for a minute.

The Acura nav is little changed from when it debuted in the '05 RL. It might not have purdy graphics but it still gets you from point A to point B - the whole purpose of navigation.

Speaking of that, I just spent a week driving around CO and NM in a rental Fusion and relied on cell phones for navigation. It was horrible. I used Sprint (Telenav), Verizon navigation, Blackberry Traffic, Google maps and Apple maps. All had the same problem that they were useless once the cell signal went away - which it did often.

Phone based navigation may be fine when driving in urban areas but it sucks once you get outside of cities. I'm packing my Garmin on the next trip.

While I'm at it, I had a love/hate relationship with the Fusion. I wanted to like it because it is attractive, looks fairly well built and has good reviews. I hated it. At 6'4'' I was hard pressed to find a comfortable position. Putting the seat all the way back still wasn't comfortable as my knee still rubbed against the center console (and nobody could sit behind me).

The driving dynamics were equally bad with very mushy handling. It was comfy on the straight highways though. The base radio was awful. Many functions are hidden in menus and it didn't even sound good.

It had a few good points. The blinker stalk felt solid and a tap resulted in 3 blinks. The cruise control showed a digital display of set speed and it kept the set speed up and down hills. The blind spot mirrors took getting used to but were helpful. Huge trunk.
