Hyundai Genesis SUV
Hyundai Genesis SUV
It seems that Hyundai may be jumping into the luxury SUV market. We are already aware of the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport. This would probably be a luxury version of these probably sized in between them.
The Santa Fe is 193 inches long while the Santa Fe Sport is 184 inches long. The Genesis is 196 inches long. Probably an SUV in the 187 to 189 inch length range would work as to not cannibalize Santa Fe sales and compete. They can also go head to head against the RDX, Q5, X3, and NX with a 182 to 183 inch length suv.
The Genesis has an engine with 311 horsepower and 290 torque.

Very cool looking. For a 2-door. No cargo space or utility. Not sure what it will compete against, but certainly not an RDX. Those fangs in front will catch lots of wind. No way the final version sports those suckers.
I'm not sure the the photo has anything to do with the article; all the info I've been able to find on the Intrado discusses a fuel-cell concept vehicle.

The Intrado concept, which debuted at the 2014 Geneva auto show, clearly follows the same “style first, practicality second” ethos as the Nissan Juke and seems ready to fill the sub-Tucson slot. Zuchowski also told Edmunds that the new domestic subcompact crossover “would be a vehicle that would be really designed for Gen Y, for new first-time younger buyers.” We’re thinking the finished product likely will be a bit tamer than the Intrado but borrow some of its modern and distinctive styling elements. A Hyundai spokesman confirmed Edmunds’ report and told C/D that it’s a “good bet” the U.S.-market small SUV will at least share a platform with the ix25. Don’t expect to see the new subcompact SUV until 2017 at the earliest, however.
The Intrado is a cool concept, but it just that ... a concept. A very small concept. It uses lightweight materials and I believe it is powered by a fuel cell. I can't say how similar it will be to any future production models, but hopefully a lot of the styling elements will carry over to production. And of course it will have a conventional powertrain. A Genesis-based SUV would certainly be larger. Something about the size of the Grand Cherokee/Cayenne seems like a safe bet. Aside from a grille that's about 25% too big for my taste, I think Hyundai did a great job with the Genesis sedan. I'd personally consider a Genesis SUV if it checks the right boxes.
the Genesis Sedan is the size of the RLX and is $8-10k cheaper. It is 15k cheaper than a BMW 5 series. The biggest reason for some not buying a Genesis is because Hyundai has decided not to make it a true secondary luxury badge brand and sells them next to the Elantra in normal Hyundai dealers. While some would buy an Acura RDX from a Honda dealer many would pass if they were shopping next to Fit and Civic shoppers.
Also, they need to truly distinguish this new vehicle from the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport. The Santa Fe is 3 inches shorter than the Genesis so a Genesis sized SUV would be 3 inches longer with maybe 10-20 extra horsepower. If it is the size of the Sonata then it is 190 inches (3 shorter than the Santa Fe and 5 longer than the Santa Fe sport). Again maybe not enough size difference.
Audi / Porshe have been smart in positioning the Cayenne right between the Q5 and Q7 in size so as not to compete with themselves.
As an older Santa Fe owner my main issue with Hyundai is that when filling up at Wawa or any other gas station with newer high speed pumps, there are issue where the tank thinks it is full when it is not and I need to hold the gas nozzle at 50% to dispense fuel. For me this is enough reason not to get another Hyundai if this is not fixed.
