Hi guys I am pretty sure about getting the 2013 RDX with Tech Pkg, just a little unsure whether to get FWD or AWD. I will be buying the car in West Texas. Any inputs on the FWD or AWD? I probably will not encounter snow. If FWD is good enough, I am leaning towards it coz of the better mileage and cheaper price. I test drove it in great weather and couldn't really tell much difference. Any input greatly appreciated!

 

I suggest using Google to get a better understanding of how AWD works and when it works best so that you can have some objective info. to balance with opinion. Snow is not it's only potential value, but regardless of when & how it works, the relative cost & performance value is unique to each person.

 

i've had a subaru impreza before and a honda civic so i'm familiar with AWD and FWD. I've had no issues and been able to drive AWD and FWD in snow and rain. I mostly want to know from ppl familiar with the FWD whether they have any issues/probs with the car. Not really sure how FWD will work on an SUV.

 

Unless you are planning on driving off road to find that perfect camping spot, you really don't need it in the southwest. I like the sh-awd of my 08; but, I have to drive like a bat out of hell to use it. I don't get much use from the awd system in "normal" driving. I’ve taken my TSX on the same snow covered roads in the mountain and city streets as the RDX with zero problems.

Some disadvantages with AWD:
-less mpgs
-more vehicle weight
-more wear on tires because the rear tires are driven instead of being dragged
-replace tires sooner (my 50,000 mile Conti DWS will need to replace around 40,000 miles)
-If you get one flat tire that needs to be replaced, the ill-informed Discount tire techs will tell you must replace all 4 tires to match tread wear because of the awd system. I had to show them in the owner’s manual that 4 tire replacements is preferred; but, 2 tires on the same axel is A-OK before they could do the work.

I think your driving skills and choice of tires will mean a whole lot more in any vehicle you drive. I see more 4WD SUV upside down on the side of the road compared to FWD.

 

thanks for the input! I'm prob gonna go ahead and get the fwd, dealer in the area doesn't even have any awd with tech pgk anyways. if i move to a snowy area in the future ill just upgrade the tires.
