I doubt it will get the SH-AWD. If you want it, Acura has forced you to upgrade to MDX. I actually enjoy the smooth ride of the AWD system on the 16 RDX. The SH having more stiffer suspension is a little less enjoyable. Makes sense on the TL or TLX.

4cyl turbo. Probably not as well. I don't see Acura going back to 4cyl except the ILX and TLX but not with turbo.

I do believe eventually the RDX will get the 8-9 speed tranny in the next gen.

I saw and article Acura/honda is developing a 10-speed transmission for the next gen of vehicles. I imagine the RDX will get the 8/9AT for sure 2018 or 2019 with an all new model; but, save the 10-speed for the RLX, MDX and V-6 TLX.

LINK: Technology Preview: We Drive Honda's 10-Speed Automatic Transmission

The last time I was in for an oil change, the service manager said Acura was going to introduce more "sporty" variants of the current line-up. I'm thinking the MMC RLX, MDX and TLX might inject a little more sport. It is unfortunate the RDX is done with upgrades until the all new model comes out as a 2019 model.

I'm thinking since the RDX is a little behind the MDX tech wise; whatever we see on the MMC MDX in 2017 will be the tech/features offered at a min on the 2019 RDX. Kinda like the 2013-2015 RDX with new exterior styling (minus the LEDs); but, previous gen tech level in the interior (engine/trans/tech).

I would go for an RDX if it had sh-awd and 3500-5000 lbs of towing. I'm fine with everything else on the 16 RDX.

I know that there is probably a 90% chance of a turbo 4 coming back and also for sure an at least 8 speed auto. If they really take the brand seriously, they will put in an 8 speed dct and a turbo into the next generation rdx. Otherwise this "just barely premium" half assed hard plastic attempt at a luxury brand isn't cutting it.

I too believe 8 speed will make its way into RDX, but not turbo. Sh-awd is 50/50.
Probably Honda lane watch will become Acura lanewatch in 3rd generation RDX

The most important one is the 8 speed

It helps with acceleration and effiency

I like it in my tlx and hope in 2 years I can lease the rdx

They are working on a turbo for their cars, I am almost certain it is coming to their rdx too. Every other manufacturer does this to save money. Vw uses the 2.0t in almost everything now.

I don't see them going back to sh-awd, it weighs too much and isn't necessary in the RDX, people who buy the 2G RDX couldn't care less about sh-awd (generally speaking). It is just a heavy weight, fuel eating system. Also if they go turbo, we all know turbos don't save fuel, this would be a thirsty vehicle.

Honda watch is already acura watch, isn't it?

I agree, the 8 speed is the biggest and best thing they could do for the rdx. Keeping all things the same, the acceleration and fuel economy should be bumped up about 15-20%. From the loaners I drove, you can tell the RDX is VERY powerful but the transmission is seldom in the right gear.

Probably 99.9% of the folks who wish for SH-AWD again are on this forum and maybe a handful of car reviewers. Don't see it happening....

Hoping for a Type S version in 2019 though.

I was thinking the same. Will they use two different types of systems already? I doubt it.

I can live with any other upgrades on the RDX but please don't take away the V6. It's a beautiful motor.

I think they might and should add some Acura exclusive features (I think lane keep assist is already an Acura specific feature). I don't if it was just me not knowing how to use the system, but the adaptive cruise control in the 2016 mdx tech I had turned off after the car stopped at a red light....isn't that wrong? Isn't it a stop and go system?

I want them to keep the V6, but they NEED to include a V6 turbo!!! Oohhh

I am new to the Honda/Acura line.

Before taking the delivery of my 2016 RDX I was given a 2016 ILX as a loaner for one week. I find the 8 speed transmission very jerky - shifting rough and hunting for gears often. That reminds me of the Mercedes GLA (7 speed) I test drove. Comparing the 8 speed to the 6 speed in the RDX I take the 6 speed any time.

The 5 & 7 speed transmissions in my Infiniti were silky smooth, which is very similar to the RDX 6 speed.

Acura must smooth out their 8 speed transmission before introducing it to any other platforms.

I shudder to think how badly this is going to crash and burn. They couldn't even get a 5 or 6 speed correct for 10+ years.....what are they smoking that makes them think they could get something as uber complex as a 10 speed correct?

Also why the heck do we need 10 speeds? How uber close will the first 4-5 gears be? I bet so close that it will hamper acceleration. How tall will the 10th gear be? I bet you would need to drive at very very illegal speeds to get to 10th and even then the system would try its best to stay out of it. Lastly did I hear gear hunt?

Please manufacturers, stick to 7, 8 is really pushing it and 9 is useless.
