Full Beak Grill Replacement

I’ve previously dipped my grill but now handling the beak another way: Total replacement.

If you’ve followed the #DeleteTheBeak hashtag on IG, you’ve seen the work of @boss02126, h/t for his efforts on this project. He’s previously built grill replacements for Acura TLX and I was his first Acura RDX customer to go full #DeleteTheBeak. I chose the insert to be of a hexagonal mesh pattern that resembles the mesh pattern on the faux air vents while keeping the existing chrome trim for overall design consistency. Pleased with the way this turned out. Hopefully it gives some of you some ideas. Would love to see them.

Looks awesome, how much are these?

My only concern is it looks like aerodynamics and/or fuel economy might be slightly affected at highway speeds causing front end lift due to the larger opening letting air under the hood?

Looks like it's $900 as per the seller. Way above what I want to spend. May try to make my own- buy the surround or a spare grille, generic honeycomb plastic mesh, and an Acura badge.

Something I did think about but not totally sure on this honestly. IMO there is a lot of plastic surround on the front engine bay that should block some of that air coming in. Haven’t felt a difference off the line or during freeway driving so far.

It looks great, but agree that it's over-the-top expensive when compared to buying a standard replacement grill.

At that point I'd probably try to color match the beak with the paint or something. It'd be way less of an impact on the wallet lmao.

I mean how hard would it be to make one? Just use the existing surround/edge trim from a spare grille, insert generical plastic honeycomb mesh material (purchasable through ebay) and glue it to the edges, and buy/place on a new Acura badge (also purchasable through ebay).

If it’s as easy as you make it sound, how come we don’t see other 2G RDX owners doing this mod themselves? I’ve never seen it done until now...

Because the idea wasn't there until now, and thanks for providing it to us! It's not like other 2G RDX owners have attempted this mod and failed.

You’re welcome but the idea isn’t new and has been there for a while on other vehicles. A lot of us don’t like the beak, just look at all the threads in this forum of people wrapping or painting the beak. (I’ve previously wrapped mine matte black). But modifying the grill to remove the beak has been done for at least a few years (see below) and while the price is steep, it was a mod I wanted and I was going to make it happen.

I am interested to see what other 2G RDX owners do with this mod going forth.
