Fog Lights

Hi All,

Recently bought a AWD, Tech 2013 RDX. Great vehicle and great mileage!

Was able to set everything up very easily except for the fog lights. Can I turn it on manually? It's really difficult to drive up here in Boston in this snowy weather without them.

Thanks!

What do you mean by "turning them on manually"? Do you mean just have them on with your headlights on, or do you mean that you just want your fog lights on without having your headlights?

Yes to have them on with my headlights.
I have the headlights on "Auto" but the foglights still don't turn on (tested a couple of times). Hence trying to see if I can turn them on myself.

The only way to turn on your fog light is to have the low beam on. Without the low beam on your fog light will not turn on. You might be able to get the dealership to reprogram this though

They don't turn on automatically with your headlights as they are called "fog lights" which means they are to be used only is situations that require them. They aren't just for a tiny bit of extra illumination in every day driving. I hate it when people have them on all the time. They don't provide hardly any extra light when they aren't needed.

Why not just turn them on when you really need them and have them off the rest of the time. Millions of people drive every night without foglights and I don't see them crashing into each other. Just a pet peeve...pay no heed if you're really dead set on using them all the time. But I think that is the reason manufactures don't have a setting to have them turn on automatically with the headlights.

I'm confused by this question. If you have your fog light switch to on and your headlight switch to auto, your fog lights will turn on whenever your headlights turn on. If you flip to your highbeams, the fog lights will turn off automatically.

Because they do extend out more towards the curb and what not. I guess you have a point but I don't see a difference because even on coming traffic with fog lamps doesn't blind me. My fog lamps come on as soon as my lights turn on every time.

And to the OP - Auto headlights turn on when needed. You must also have the fog lamp switch (I think it's on the left hand stalk like the old RDX and my TSX). This will turn them on ONLY when the headlights are on LOW BEAM.

OP
Please refer to your owners manual. It does an excellent job of explaining how they work, how to turn them on etc.
Some of the posts here are bordering on the absurd and will likely add to the confusion.

^^ As much as I normally agree with geocord on many things, and respect everyone's opinion, I am with you on that one. I think fog lights can enhance the look of the car when they are on

Nope, not with geocord on this one - the fogs supply some light directly in front of the vehicle and to the sides, and I want all the light I can get when driving in the dark. And it's not a matter of looking cool.

And in fact, I think the term fog lights is a misnomer, since I wouldn't want to try driving in fog with only those lights *. In truth they're more like weak driving lights or marker lights as much as anything.

(* Note: Yes, I know you don't want dazzlingly bright lights on when driving in fog, since it turns it into a wall of white. But the fog lights don't project enough to light up the road ahead safely IMO.)

There's no fog in Tx so you can't be an authority on this topic..

Hahaha. Right, there's no fog in Texas. And there's no snow in Minnesota.

From experience, I know that fog lights help. Granted, it's still better to NOT drive in fog, but if you must, fog lights provide much better and safer illumination than low or high beams. I do not typically drive in "pea soup" fog, but for those few times when I do, I am glad I have fog lights.
