1. What is the size of the oil pan drain plug? 16 mm? I searched the forum quickly for this info but it didn't come up.
2. At 168,000 KM, the maintenance minder code A124 came up, indicating oil change plus replacement of spark plugs and timing belt.
Does anyone know what the typical cost would be to replace the timing belt? I want to delay this job for a little while.
Also, on some cars (but not all) , if the the timing belt fails, engine damage will occur because the valves hit the pistons. Does anyone if the RDX falls into this category?
The good thing is that your vehicle is still young age wise, the bad thing is that you live Eastern Canada which means harsh conditions. 160,000km and 10 years are the numbers if I remember correctly . If you want to sleep peacefully at night start price shopping for that service. You will not be the first person to go past the recommended maintenance period, I did a belt at 220,000km for 1990 Accord, no idea if it had been done by a previous owner but I highly doubt it.
Drain plug size is M14 -1.50 are you on full synthetic? I am using Fram XG7317 Ultra Synthetic filter and Castrol Edge Full Synthetic 0W-20 I got on sale. Also did my cabin and engine filters... both in about 2.34 minutes, how a dealer can charge hundreds for that service for $30 in parts is beyond me.
Thanks...ya I always use full synthetic and change it myself but don't have the right tool to remove the drain plug.....I am on the verge of rounding off the flats.. what is the size of the socket you'd use on the drain plug?
Yes the RDX has an interferance engine. Bad things happen if the belt breaks. That said, it is rare. What usually happens is the tensioner fails and breaks the belt.
Now a Honda V-6 is a Honda V-6 no matter what vehicle they put it in. So you can price this service at a Honda dealer or an independant shop that specializes in
Honda/Acura vehicles. One thing you can do is source a kit made by Aisin. They are said to make the water pump for Honda. The kit they have includes the belt, pump,
tensioner, idler and sometimes bearings. From what I remember, some of the bearings do not really need changing unless they are leaking or it is the second timing belt service.
One has to also obtain the drive belt. Many also change the thermostat at this time as well. The coolant is supposed to be good until 120k miles or 193k ish km, but it ususally
gets replaced during the timing belt service because of replacing the water pump. Make sure only real Honda premixed long life coolant is used!
Spark plugs can go longer if you need to save some money. They are quite pricey and there are only two you can use. (Ilzkr7B11) (Ngk) (Sxu22Hcr11) (Denso)
The torque spec on the drain plug is 29 lbf-ft, 39 N-m, 4.0 kgf-m with a fresh crush washer (recommended) Or install a valve.
