Cruising thru Idaho

Please do not do this illegal and dangerous activity of using cellphone while driving at high speeds. We would love to hear about your story when you have stopped for a coffee break. Good luck.

80 isn't high speed, it's the speed limit

Some parts of I-70 in Utah and I-10 in southern Texas also have 80 mph interstate speeds. I usually drive 5 mph over the post speed limit and hwy patrol has never pulled me over in +20 years of driving the fed, state, or local roads.

I have never been to Idaho. If I ever do get there, I'll try to remember this thread while driving through straight roads at 80mph. .

Cruising at 80+ is not unusual out here in the wild west regardless of the speed limit. If you drive the speed limit (65) on most of the freeways in the Phoenix area you'll get run over. It's 75 on the interstates in AZ and surrounding states so 80+ is pretty normal.

75 or 80 is an amazing speed limit. Here in Ontario Canada by far the most common speed limit on the highway is 100 KM/hr which is about 62 MPH. But you never ever get nailed by radar unless you are doing well over 120.
I frequently drive into the Greater Toronto area in the afternoons and the typical speeds just outside the city (and with a lot of traffic) are 130-140 (up to 87 MPH) but on that particular side of the city there is usually a nice tailwind and I have come to the conclusion that it actually tends to make you drive faster as there is less drag and wind noise and (at least in the RDX) it seems like you are barely touching the gas pedal.
I would go crazy if I had to drive 60-65 mph.

great road trip so far, WA - ID - NV - UT - AZ - NV - CA. Ticked over 2K miles so far and oil is at 50% since new in March.
Going 5-10 over the posted speed limit seems pretty normal in CA.

Where do you live? Is this your first trip 'out west'? Lots of great scenery out here.

Well, I'd keep it below 10 over in CA.....the CHP is known to tag you for that 10 over...just sayin'....I went to Stanford in NorCal and visit often....keep it at 5-6 over on the freeways and they seem to leave you completely alone....again, your call; however, just sharing my experiences of many thousands of miles in CA...

Long day today Fairfield CA to Puyallup WA -- 750 miles.
Car got rear ended inline at a car wash in Medford OR - that sucked - but looks easily fixable and I have all their insurance info and pics to file a claim

Whoa.... that really sucks. How can an accident ever happen inside a car wash. I thought the cars run on conveyor belts/ tracks. Was there any driver in the car behind or was it on auto mode? It looks really stupid if you Rearend someone inside a car wash.

not my first trip out west - I grew up in the Mojave desert near Barstow and was stationed at Travis AFB a long time ago. Haven't been back in almost 20 years, was good to see some old friends.

I always thought the rear bumper design was pretty weak - luckily the jeep wasn't jacked up so the their bumper missed the door.
And only 3 months old.

We've been in the PNW since 1988, retired Air Force (97) and Boeing. Was through NM back in 2015 on my bike - me and a buddy did a USA Four Corners Tour, his daughter was in Santa Fe.
You can look up ORF Four Corners Tour 2015 on FB, it has four mandatory stops if you want to get in the books - Blaine WA, San Ysidro CA, Key West FL and Madawaska ME - rode 8000 miles in 15 days

Dang, I did an Iron Butt run years ago...but that 8K in 15 days is a lot of riding over that stretch.....what kind of bike did you make the run on?

I was riding a a BMW R1200RT, upgraded to a last year K1600GT, that's why my wife got her new RDX, it was her turn . I've done the Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 in 17 hours a few years ago too, might try the Bun Burner 1500 end of the month when we get the most daylight
