Coolant fluid level
Coolant fluid level
Our RDX just got its first 1000 miles and I decided to check what the engine compartment looked like. It took quite a bit of time to find the darn hood release!
I noticed that the refigerant coolant was about a half inch below the MIN mark with the engine not running and cold. The next day my wife swung by the dealer, they checked it out and said it was normal. That the coolant was throughout the system. Is that right?? l. Come back at 5000 miles for the first service.
if the container has MIN-MAX markings, in my book, they are showing the acceptanpble range of liquid. Was the service technician selling me a bill of goods?

IMHO the dealer is incorrect. Ours was about a quart low on oil at 5k miles. I was surprised to find this and added a quart. Since the oil change at 9k, it hasn't used any oil. I think it was low from the factory(which could be the case with your coolant). I would add some and see what it does over the next 5k.
The coolant is throughout the sytem ,meaning the radiator is full. What is in the coolant reservoir is additional. So You could get by with having a low reading. The Dealer will top it off at Your first oil change.
But it should be between low and high at all times. It doesn't drop below the low mark if it has enough coolant. The dealer shouldn't be saying this is normal.
It's just water and anti Freeze. I doubt they're trying to pinch any pennies by not topping you off, if the coolant is leaking, they get warranty work. But you can just top it off yourself, you're already halfway there. Just pop the lid and put in some distilled water.

Do the ready mixed products come in different types depending the weather or type of cars?

The small amount of distilled water you need to add won't dilute it enough to matter. And if you insist on adding coolant, get some real Honda stuff. Just make sure you get the right kind...adding the wrong stuff can cause serious issues. Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it at all.
