Coolant Change

Getting ready to change out and flush the coolant system. Anyone here using Water Wetter ? Thinking about adding the stuff. Have used it for years in my other cars with no problems,,just thought I'd ask here though.

mostly, it will be personal opinion, but your opinion is the strongest.
if you use it in other cars and believe in the product, why not use it???

our regular plain old honda coolant is sufficient!

Nope, my coolant temperature gauge is always in the normal operating range...somewhere in the bottom quarter of its range.

I used it in my 3G and noticed no difference. However, even if there was a difference, all it would result in is a very miniscule increase to cooling capacity due to the claims that Water Wetter decreases the cavitation causes by water vapor that occurs in the hotter parts of the engine like the cylinder head. You can get this thin layer of water vapor, rather than water itself, that will become a barrier between the coolant and water channels in the cylinder head. Water Wetter contains surfactants that significant reduce that issue so that the coolant can increase contact with the water channels and improve the cooling effect.

However, the big kicker is that commercial coolant has the exact same thing. Which is why if you look at the charts provided by Water Wetter, you'll see that the improvement with straight water is quite good, but the improvement in a traditional mix of 50/50 coolant is very marginal. It might improve things ever so slightly but not enough to make any significant difference.

Water Wetter seems better suited for racecars that run straight water - which is also who Redline markets it to more heavily that road vehicles.

Gotta say though, for the price, you might as well give it a go. It certainly won't hurt anything and it's not terribly expensive. It can only help.

IF waterwetter is reducing the operating temperature of your car I would suggest you have a problem with your thermostat or one of your cooling fans.

Guess the biggest thing to regulate engine temp would be the thermostat . May just leave the stuff out.

Exactly. People always want a quick fix instead of solving the actual problem. If it isn't cooling enough, you need a rad flush or a new rad, and/or water pump and/or thermostat. (Of course the fans have to be working)

FIX THE PROBLEM!

In the electronics of the car, many people love to install batteries with a higher CCA (or Ah) instead of fixing a failing starter or high corrosion connections between the battery and starter and ground cables.

FOR EXAMPLE, how well do you think my friend's starter worked with an armature that looked like this? It sounded like he had a weak battery it would hardly turn over or not start at all. In fact he unnecessarily bought a new battery. That was a waste!

This is the SAME armature after I cleaned it up as well as the rest of the starter with a new brush plate. Guess what, it started like it was new. No surprise there!
