Anyone spotted the new RDX?
#82
Guess it's all subjective, but I test drove the advanced and thought they looked much better in person. Ended up putting a deposit down on an AWD advanced. Should be in in about 10 days

Burning Brakes
Anyone know what the lug pattern is? Is it 5x120 or is it 5x114? I will be purchasing the 16' RDX Advance soon to add to my 14' TL SH AWD which is my weekend show car. I will definitely be swapping out the stock wheels for summer so would love to start shopping soon. I do have 20" Work VSXX but wondering how 20's compare to 22's on this SUV. I know 20's were too small for the MDX.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Car Crazy for Sure!
Congrats!! Mine is on it's way...should be here in about a week. I've owned a '13 AWD Tech for almost 3 yrs. Learned to really appreciate it. Is it perfect...no...but, no vehicle is. The LONG "like it" list is much longer than the "not quite so crazy about it" list. I've owned over 60 vehicles...not bragging at all..just supports experiences! Over half of those have been new.
I'm not crazy about the wheels....have seen lot's worse examples...i.e. the CRV Touring!!!! Wow...those are ugly!! I would change those out!!
So, often times I replace with other wheels...but, I'm slowing down on that. Lot's of money invested over the years in wheels and tires. I decided that the wheels on the Advance are not what I would have picked out...but, I can live with them. And, it's really my wife's daily driver...and wheels don't matter to her. And she LOVES her RDX.
It's the overall vehicle that I really like. Key word...overall. Are there some things I'd like changed or tweaked here and there. Sure....but, I got a great deal on a great vehicle...and they hold their resale value very well...and they give great service as well as gas mileage.
Perfect...no...but, great for us...yes!!

It has been confirmed. I did that. And I posted all the info. about this subject. The AWD models come with the "Spare Tire Kit." The FWD models DO NOT. That's a fact...take it to the bank.
And that's with an actual physical double check! LOL!
#86
I completely concur with Colorado Guy above. I test drove a 2016 RDX AWD the other day and made a point to actually look into the spare tire well. The AWD definitely comes with a full sized "temporary" spare (not an actual Michelin Primacy) and it will do just fine. I also looked into the spare tire well of a 2016 FWD to compare. It definitely does not include a spare at all - just a Styrofoam filler where the spare should be and a "fix-a-flat" type apparatus. A spare tire kit is available for you to purchase from Acura as an accessory for the FWD and may cost you up to $400. Like I said - saw it with my own eyes.

Like the other guys above said, the AWD I test drove totally had a full size spare in the trunk under the board.

Finally got to see the 2016 RDX in person. I have to say that it does look so much better in person. It also looks more high end then the 2015 model. A mini MDX. Lots of shiny trim pieces. The Advance wheels do indeed look much better in person. They are painted. May not be good looking but they are acceptable to me.

I just went by my local dealer. There were several '16s... at least 5 or more I could easily see. There are still a bunch of '15s out there too.
I like the new headlights. All the other exterior changes did not strike me as improvements. I found them exaggerated and cartoonish. I'm not a fan of the Advance wheels at all. They look "flat," like a lot of the new wheels Honda and others are making.
It was, however, nice to see reverse sensors in the bumpers -- something the RDX should have had standard from the beginning.

Really Coach?? Those "accessory" diamond wheels are not too bad...better than the ones that come on the Advance.
But, stuff like this is all subjective. There are better looking wheels available for sure. For me...IF I can "accept" a wheels look...I'm down now. Have spent too much on wheels and tires on other vehicles. IF they are truly FUGLY...I will change them. Look at the CRV Touring wheels!! Wow...those would go!!!!!

They look like holiday ornaments or a mid-century room divider from Mad Men. I would definitely choose my stock '13 wheels over those, all other things equal. I do think it would be nice if Acura had 3-4 options for 'stock' wheels. Volvo has done that for years(doesn't mean they don't have their favorites to ship; but others are available).

^^ They do look better in the flesh...A person I knew had them put on and they do look great! I am reserving judgement on the OEM wheels until I see them in person too.

LMAO....that was great. I agree..Honda Motor Corp. in general does not give much in choices for wheels. Their engineers and designers just don't think in those terms. Their "heads" are more on the car design, engine quality and efficiency, etc. They don't think in terms of us wanting to accessorize our vehicles.

2013-2015 look better than 2016, wheels look better, chrome bezels in the bumper are overkill and add nothing, I hate that clear part of the tail lights in the 2016, plain and all red in the old one is better, rear bumper is bigger for nothing, makes it look fat, fog lights not in the tech for 2016, V grille is not much of an improvement, I don't hate it or anything but I'm fine with the old one. I like the graystone interior a lot, finally something between all black or parchment, touch screen is nice too, but not a necessity, so I'll be happy to get a used 2013 in the future.
Did you guys notice there's no tint strip on top of the windshield in the 2016?

I don't need for my vehicles to look spectacular ; but the exterior of the '16 won't be much of a factor when deciding if I want to 'update' from our '13.
Surely, that missing tint strip on the '16 is not correct. That won't fly in central Texas...OR Vegas That can't be a Base vs Advance/Tech option, can it?

I personally prefer 2016
While the 2016 is not perfect I like it more than 2015. It looks more premium. 2015 rdx just look like a honda . The missing fog lights and wheels are a set back but not a show stopper. It looks better in person.

I was just at that dealership today to look a white 2016 RDX but it was sold. Anyways, I had a 2014 RDX and I think the 2016 RDX in person looks much fresher and upscale. Obviously that is all subjective as to what you like.

Summer is Coming
I saw a 2016 Tech at my local dealer. They didn't have an Advance or Base, just Tech. I think it looks better in person. The wheels look 'ok.' They don't look as bad in person as you would think from the pictures. I think the older wheels look better, but the new wheels aren't a deal breaker either. Livable, but Acura is not doing themselves any favors by putting these wheels on their cars. Almost like they are trying to make the wheels unattractive.
But If I had to pick between the '15 and '16 I'd take the '16 all day long. Except for the wheels the new styling looks better than the 15. And all the other improvements make it a no brainer.
As for the tint strip on the windshield, all newer Acuras seem to be this way. Not sure why.

My wife and I lucked out on an improvised visit to a dealership and test drove a 2016 Base model in white. They had an Advance package model another couple was test driving with 'those' wheels and really, in person they don't look bad at all. I'd say, in picture the standard wheel looks better and the option wheel looks worse - but it's flipped in person.
Anyways, we were even luckier that they had a 2015 base in white, too, so we go to do side by side comparisons between the 2015 and 2016 base models. Firstly, I couldn't discern any significant difference between the 2015 leather and 2016 leatherette. Maybe the leatherette is slightly thinner??? But that could just be in my head. There is a strange illusion that the modified dash trim gives a slightly larger space in front... I know it's in our heads but we (salesman included) felt like there was maybe 1/2 - 1'' more width in 2016. The 3D front grill has more presence than the 2015 model - however, at certain angles it looks too busy and I prefer the 2015's simplicity, particularly the chrome bezel around the fog light area and I do not care for the busier rear bumper of the 2016. I will reserve judgement for a darker color as the white/chrome look is more polarizing in my opinion. Plus, it's my wife's car and she loves the 2016 styling so my opinion is worth that of toilet paper on the matter.
The drive is virtually identical. In our heads, we prefer the 2016. An extra 'pep' in the acceleration and slightly less road noise on the freeway portion of the drive. I highly doubt instrument tests would show a disparity between the two models and if so, entirely marginal, but it's in our heads nonetheless.
If I had 2013-2015 model I wouldn't see the need for an upgrade to a 2016 unless the acura watch/advance trim is desired. Going in our gut-feeling was to 'settle' for the 2016 base over the 2015 tech (price being equal). Test drive confirmed it for us. We simply don't care for the navigation systems of either 2015 or 2016 and don't see the value the additional features that come along with the tech package to justify the ~$3,700 premium (for 2016) or in her words the older body style (for 2015).

I believe the updated version is a step in the right direction. The exterior and interior styling changes are minimal but nevertheless they are improvements. The driver assist functions are a step forwards. Since I have a 2014 tech version, for me the changes are not substantial enough to make an upgrade, but I perfectly understand those who want to. If I were in the market for a new car, even with the price increase, I would have chosen the 2016 version without question. For now I'm just happy to watch the events unfold, and wishing good luck to those who are awaiting their new car.

Or the Adaptive Cruise...or Lane Keeping Assist...or Lane Departure Warning...I don't know where all the "sensors" are located. IF on the back of the mirror for one or more of these....then maybe the darker strip on the top of the windshield might have presented a problem.
Will cause other issues...LIKE SUN IN MY EYES!! Maybe that's a system I need monitored too Acura!!!

Well, as I've said many times...no perfect vehicle made out there. If the "like" column is lot's longer than the "don't like" column, then that is a good sign to go with. I've always found "things" that I'd like done better, etc in all my new cars, but, THE perfect one would be the one I get to design and watch being built!

I was hoping to hear/read about some improvement in the ride quality of the 2016 RDX as compared to the 2013-2015 m-y vehicle. When you read though the 'buyers remorse' thread there's mention of a harsh/noncompliant ride when negotiating bumps in the road , etc together with a noisy suspension, particularly at times of low ambient temperatures. On my/our test drive of a '15 RDX Tech several months ago we noticed the vehicle didn't handle sharp bumps in the road very well (as compared to some other 'mainstream' and 'premium' CUVs) - and as a result we felt the RDX was rather 'truckish' in nature as far as the suspension was concerned. I'm guessing that because of this particular vehicle/suspension trait, Acura RDX engineers & designers were loathe to offer optional 19 inch wheels on the '16 RDX and decided instead to stay with 18's which the vehicle has had all along.
I look forward to test driving a '16 RDX in a week or two; we're still waiting for the first shipment of '16 RDXs to arrive here in south-western Ontario.
