Aftermarket HID

Hi Guys,

Has anyone put aftermarket HIDs in their non-Tech RDX? The headlights suck. I need more light. I'll probably do the foglights too eventually.

If you have aftermarket HIDs, let me know what kind. I've used XenonDepot bulbs in my IS250 and they are inexpensive and great. I'm not looking for the blue aftermarket look, just better lighting. I will get the 5000k bulbs.

Thanks

Ive found that cheap HID replacements are that, cheap.

for all my HID needs, I head to theretrofitsource.com
great quality, great customer service, great articles, great products, great people.

their kit includes a relay and 5000k is perfect!
I'm running the 5000k kit on my Kia Sportage.

The Morimoto look great too. What's the difference between the H11 and H11B bulbs?

XenonDepot isn't a cheap HID kit. They sell inexpensive HID D4S replacement bulbs versus the OEM Philips ones that work great. They have a really good HID kit with a relay harness that has OEM Philips bulbs at 4300k but they are $250 or something.

I'm trying to decide between the two.

How does the Morimoto kit compare in appearance to the OEM HIDs? And since it is not a "modification" per se, will it affect the factory warranty?

under the magnuson act, if they can prove that your electrical addition caused other electrical mishaps or malfunctions, then yes it can void the warranty.

For bulbs sold by TRS, the H11B has its electrode rod opposite of the H11 morimoto bulb.
On the RDX this is important coz the morimoto H11's rod causes a shadow in the beam pattern, the XB35 H11B resolves this.

Not all HID kits are the same, tho they will all turn on, the light output, warm up time, startup current, beam cutoff (due to imprecise arc location) and reliability all matters.

For light output, cheaper kits have noticeably less output than OEM. IMO, the Morimoto with XB35 bulbs gets very close to OEM.

Is this thread yet another reason to get the Tech package. I did not know the non-tech did not have HIDs.

LOL. I think the HID in the tech package are pretty decent headlights. The one issue is that I occasionally have sedans high beaming me, thinking my high beams are on and they aren't..

I'm a NEWbie... with Acura & Acurazine. I happen to be a Canadian as well. I picked up my first 2014 Acura RDX, Base (non Tech) last week. We've had five Hondas in the past decades until this purchase. The Canadian RDX are not available with Front Wheel Drive and the Base model (with AWD) is equipped with both Fog Lights and Xenon HID headlights. (and I'm happy about that). I had no interest or need for Navigation or power lift gate (we live in the wilderness). Apparently my RDX is equipped with a larger reservoir for windshild washer fluid... happy about that as well. Just thought I would add to this thread re: HID headlights.
