Acura "service adviser" mandates synthetic oil; how can they do this?
#42
"My dealer" has a coupon offering "0w-20" oil change at $24.95 or "full synthetic" at $49.95. The regular wound up being Acura 0w-20, filter, washer, fluids top-off and the usual multi-point check (do they really check all those things?). Pretty good deal. Of course they "accidently" overcharged by $5.00 so I had to straighten that out (have you ever noticed that dealer "mistakes" are never in the customers favor?).

Page 130 of the Owner's Manual, at the bottom, says "You may also use synthetic motor oil if it is labeled with the API Certification Seal and is of the specified viscosity grade." My Dealer's Service department tells me Acura wants the RDX to use the synthetic blend for the first several oil changes to assure everything seals properly, etc. After that, full synthetic is fine. Since the owner's manual states it--I assume no issues with using full synthetic (manual doesn't even reference the first several changes using the blend).
