3 Different Tire Questions
3 Different Tire Questions
A few tire questions and thanks for reading and responding:
Q1: Replacing tires - they are putting on new valve stems (TPMS basic kit - NOT the sensors themselves). They are using Dill - is this a decent product and any issues with fitment or other problems?
They said the product # is 7020K-A.
Q2: Thinking of replacing the spare tire on a different Acura from the one above. Car is 9 yrs old, spare never used. Tires, rubber start to degrade over time. Any thoughts or personal experience regarding this?
Q3: Spare tire sizing question: Spare is a continental T 165/90 R 17 105M. As long as everything is the same on a replacement, if the load capacity (ie 105M on the original spare) is as high or higher, any issues with a spare with increase load bearing capacity?
Thanks in advance for your time and input.

Here is my $0.02
1). I can’t speak to the make you have called out as I have no experience with them. What I will say is I have had multiple sets of tires replaced on numerous vehicles over the years and never once did I have the valve stems or TPMS sensors replaced. Maybe I have been lucky but again never had them replaced or had any issues. I just replaced all four tires on my wiffe’s 2016 for the second time at ~ 110K and am still using original OEM parts from the factory.
2) Most tire manufacturers recommend tire replacement at 10 years regardless of mileage because as you point out rubber degrades and dries out over time. I guess one thing to consider is that if the spare has never been used, it likely hasn’t been exposed to direct sunlight and environmental conditions it has been ticked away under the cargo area. If you live in a hot area (AZ, TX, FL, etc…)where internal vehicle temperature climb and are often very hot, that may not things differently. I would absolutely take the spare out and inspect it. Also make sure to check inflation is set properly. It’s easy to forget about the spare as it is out of sight, out of mind type of thing. Does you no good to have a flat or under inflated spare when you reed it.
3) So long as you have the same size as the OEM spare you should be good. In terms of load rating so long as it is the same or higher, you are fine.
