3 and 4 cyl mode
Still don't understand why they don't show this on the center info display when its showing mpg. Just a small "VCM3" and "VCM4" pop up would have been perfect.
Also I do wonder, is VCM engaged when idle?

When cruising on a plan road it works in 3 cyl, when you accelerate with the cruising controls it goes on 4 cyl and the same when cruising uphill. When you press hard on the gas it is 6 cyl. The fuel economy gauge will hint you. When it's going to the max it's 6, when moderate acceleration it's 4, when it's less then mid point it's 3 cyl.
I even cruise in the city as it automatically works in 3 cyl if the computer detects no acceleration

Depending on what live data you can get from a generic OBD2 scanner, you should be able to tell what mode it is running in based on MAF readings. It would require more air to run on 6 cyl than 4 or 3 cyl. As someone else stated, the fuel economy readings would also change for the better if it is going from 6 cyl to something else.
