2016 RDX questions

I had a couple of questions:

1. Do I need to apply a leather conditioner right now? Or should I wait a few month and do it? I don't have any experience with leather conditioners, so any suggestion is welcome.

2. My RDX did not come with wheel locks. Does anyone know if these will fit?

Most people here would say to save your money on wheel locks - nobody is going to steal RDX wheels.

You can treat your leather anytime you want - from day one. There are many choices for you. I've been using turtle wax ICE for years and have never had a problem. I use it in my cars and on our furniture.. They also make an ICE wax/sealant - spray it on and wipe it off. It's easy to use and very quick (you have to use microfiber cloths, though). And fwiw, I have no vested interest in turtle wax.

I thought the RDX comes standard with leather seats. Is it not so on the 2016 models?

I'm sorry to confuse, but most car manufactures use some kind of synthetic leather, or vinyl. not real Top Grain of FULL grain leather.

with that being said; its easier to clean and maintain than real full grain leather, and OP will not have to waste money on leather cleaner.

simply take a mixture of woolite and water and wipe down seats to remove surface grime. that is all that is needed to keep surface of seats clean

Of course the seats are leather - well, technically they have "leather seating areas" - the back of the seat and the sides are vinyl, pleather, plastic or naugahyde (depending on your generation).

I prefer LeatherMasters products as they do not leave any film or make the leather shiny like inexpensive cleaners/protectants.

If you have light colored seats or if you wear jeans, then I would clean and protect from day one.

You can apply the leather conditioner anytime you want to (or rather whenever you have the time and inclination to do it). You may also wait for the stars and planets to align in a certain way so that you get better results .
Thanks for the info Justin/ Ceb.

That's not quite right. The areas that your butt, back and head touches is "real" leather. It is coated for wear protection and it might not be the finest Connolly leather but it is real leather. It isn't "bonded" leather but real leather through and through.

Quite frankly, top grain leather isn't really suited for automotive use as car seats get far more abuse than the chair in your English drawing room.

so, if its coated, then cleaning via woolite and water is still valid.

can you condition coated leather?

LOL - definitely no need for wheel locks on an RDX

Doesn't Acura suggest wiping down the seats with just a damp towel? I've never used any chemicals on my leather seats in over 20 years and they've always looked great

I have heard this many times for Acura/Honda seats. Does this include the side bolsters? For some folks, there is a lot of butt-to-bolster contact (not me though....).

if you DO get wheel locks, get the ones from the dealer. WHY? because all dealers have a master key in the event you lose yours.

Salespeople are fond of saying that the car has "leather" or "leather interior" as though all upholstery, including door panels etc., are included in their statement. Ask one sometime what the actual % content is (and where) and see what happens next.

Yep. On our S2000 boards, folks are still debating what parts are leather and what is not.

Typically (I think) it's just the little square where your butt goes. Salespeople can get you a straight answer but that would require giving you a, well, straight answer.

The side bolsters are leather too. Anything your body touches is leather. You'll have to use your hands to touch vinyl

Where is that info to be found? How about the back seats?
