Not much of a good deal over a Q5, especially the first year where demand will be high.

 

Like to add that the prices include the $885 destination charge. Maybe they should have a "Ohio delivery" option like BMW does with "European delivery..." I'd certainly take a $200 flight to Ohio and drive my new car for 7-8 hours to save that kind of money.

It does seem like kind of a big price jump for what you are getting. I may have to reconsider the Q5 now, as the difference isn't so much and it does have better features, look a bit better and is definately more luxurious.

Acura Announces Pricing for 2013 RDX

The all-new 2013 RDX crossover SUV will go on-sale at Acura dealerships in early Spring with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) starting at $34,320 Acura announced today.

"The right-sized 2013 RDX adds increased comfort, utility and power, along with class-leading fuel economy," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "Based on changing consumer preference, small is becoming big in the eyes of today's consumers."

The 2013 RDX significantly ups the game with its all new looks, increased comfort and new technology. In addition the RDX features a new 3.5L V-6 engine with 33 more horsepower than the outgoing model, a new 6-speed automatic transmission and a new all-wheel-drive system (available as a $1,400 option). The RDX exterior incorporates a sleek (more aerodynamically efficient) body and chassis updates abound in the form of a longer wheelbase with increased track, all-new Amplitude Reactive Dampers and a new motion adaptive electronic power steering system.

Inside the 2013 RDX, occupants will appreciate a new interior design with increased utility, rich interior materials and generous use of noise insulation. Standard features on RDX include leather seating surfaces, heated power front seats, a power moonroof and a 360watt audio system. New technologies such as Pandora® internet radio interface, an SMS text messaging function, a Keyless Access System with pushbutton start, an Active Noise Control system and a rear view camera system with 3 unique viewing angles are also standard on all RDX models.

OK, so the price increase isn't quite as bad as originally indicated. I am still looking forward to seeing the full feature list but to me, it looks pretty good for the price. It will be nice to see one in person.

 

The prices I quoted included the $885 destination charge. Unlike MSRP, there is no bargaining room there, you have to pay it...

 

Acura RDX Family Hauler Priced Below Rivals

When the totally redesigned 2013 Acura RDX goes on sale later this spring, it will have a starting price of $34,320, the automaker said today. The price excludes a destination fee of $885.

That's somewhat pricier than the outgoing RDX, which started at $32,895, but the latest-generation RDX has a substantial increase in features, better fuel efficiency and more performance.

The 2013 RDX comes with a more fuel-efficient and powerful V-6 engine that produces 273 horsepower (33 hp more than the outgoing 2012 model's 4-cylinder motor) and should achieve an estimated 20/28/23 mpg city/highway/combined or 19/27/22 mpg when equipped with all-wheel drive. The boost in fuel efficiency is aided by a new adaptive electric power-steering system that replaces the old model's hydraulic system.

There is a long list of standard features:

They include leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power moonroof, backup camera, 360-watt stereo, passive keyless entry, push-button start and a noise-canceling system. If you compare it with the outgoing RDX, you actually lose some standard features, such as automatic climate control and high-intensity-discharge headlights. Also standard are 18-inch alloy wheels and a more sophisticated rear suspension damping system, comparable to the Honda CR-V (on which the RDX is based).
All-wheel drive adds $1,400.

The new model is longer and wider than the RDX it replaces, and it compares favorably with its competition. The 2012 Lexus RX 350 starts at $39,075 and doesn't include features like a backup camera. The 2013 BMW X3 starts at $37,995, but with its new fuel-efficient 4-cylinder motor and standard power liftgate, it is fairly competitive in terms of pricing. The 2012 Cadillac SRX starts at $35,485 and isn't nearly as fuel efficient as the RDX, nor, arguably, is it as well-equipped. The 2012 Audi Q5 starts at $35,600 and is comparably equipped to the RDX. None of the Acura's competition is as fuel efficient as the RDX, however.

Sounds like they turned the Base 2013 RDX into a fancy V-6 CRV. The AWD model seems a waste of money unless you live in +3 months in snow. The CRV based AWD system would be useless in the desert southwest.

At lease with the sh-awd you could use it year round regardless of the road conditions.

 

Haven't all Acura models since something like 2007 come standard with HIDs? It looks like they'll be breaking that trend with the new RDX. I still think the 2007-2009 RDX is the best looking RDX, but maybe I'm biased

if im not mistaken on the base tsx hid is NOT standard. The RDX had the best projector in the whole acura lineup in terms of aesthetics with its purple-blue rainbow effect. So your paying more for less. ROFL.

"All TSX models are equipped with Xenon High-Intensity Discharge (HID) low-beam headlights for greatly enhanced clarity."

 

Of course, they need something to make people buy the 2014 RDX and will include HID's standard :P

 

Im more disturbed about the automatic climate control. I think every lux car has this standard. Including the highend crv. WTF. Even the rsx base models had climate control. I guess acura decided if they can't succeed at going up market they will go down market. Id choose a base bmw x3 over rdx.

 

wow, i am pretty disappointed that the base 2013 rdx won't come with HIDs or auto climate. did i read that right and fog lights won't come standard also?

 

The 2007 to 2009 RDX's definately look better than the 2010-2012, however the 2013 is much better looking to these eyes, than the 1st generation.

 

I'm not sure why people think the pre '10s look better?

1) Do they look better from the side?

2) Do they look better form the rear?

3) Do they look better from the front?

4) Do they look better from the wallet?

I don't know the ratio of pre '10ers to post '10ers, guessing its 10-1.

I like the look of the 07-09 RDX compared to the +10 models. I like the painted front/rear bumpers and the non-shield beak looking front grille. A big plus is you can add the OEM front spoiler and/or rear diffuser to the 07-09 to improve the looks even more. Not much you can do with the +10 models other than rims or tint to jazz it up. I just think the 07-09 look a little more sporty.

 

I know tastes vary. And whatever we own should be our favorite.

When I look at them both, I see improvement in the front fascia by integrating 2 pieces into 1.


Instead of an overlaped seam, with its line flowing into the rocker panels, it is one piece, with a smooth seam at the fender only.


They also lessened the "front bumper" crease (in front of the wheel and below the headlight) its smoother, kinda like the '06 prototype.


A little like in the hotrod days, they called it frenching the bumper? Whatever, to my eye it flows better.


But I do think the guy who blacked out the i/c air inlet grille is on to something. All that silver draws the eye to the wrong place.


And the blacked out rear fascia is a mod I've seen added to other cars, some people go for it. The over lapping seam remains on the rear but by painting it black, it is more subtle.


I do not like the rear center fold (creased hatch/fascia).

Flat might look better there.

I also think the 2007-09 is a car that looks much better in real life than in pictures.

 

The 12 CR-V EX-L with Navi does come with climate control and a rear view camera (wifey got that)... but I also remember that the 07 RDX did not come with a power passenger seat or bluetooth (base). Later they added such amenities

 

When i was shopping for an awd suv back in 2007, the crv ex-l navi was my finalist...until I saw an RDX for the first time on the road. It was love at first sight and I eloped.

 

When I compare the loaded RDX to a Premium Plus Audi Q5 with Navigation, I get a $4500 delta. I agree with those that consider the Audi somewhat more desirable, but, well, $4500 is $4500. It's not, say, $0.

 

YES. My dealer said that you should be able to get a teched out RDX from 2011 at around $36k without much hassle. He said they're really incentivized to get rid of them to make room for the new car.

FWIW, the old RDX is too noisy and pales to the Q5 (which has a 3+ month wait).

The new RDX does indeed look much more enticing than the old model, but at the high current MSRP and the fact they WON'T discount due to limited supply and the fact that it's only $3300 less than a teched out Q5 I have on order kind of disappoints me. I was really incentivized to cancel my Q5 order for an RDX.

 

Sure, but you get an infinitely better Nav system with 3D maps, rear HVAC vents, a panoramic sunroof, better interior materials, etc. Yes, $4500 is more money, but you do get more equipment for the price.

LOL....all the Acura owners come out swinging over HIDs non-standard. I still dont understand Acura customers obsession with standard HIDs (or now lack thereof) I dont get it. Now, are all the german makers crazy? Have they been all these years for making HIDs part of optional equipment?

Like i was predicting, Acura breached 40k with the 2013 RDX. To me, its even less of a value than the 2012 tech pack, especially with no SHAWD. 40+ for non SHAWD w/hids and nav? I guess many people on the board can understand why the Q5 is really quite still the VALUE in this segment

2013's best model will certainly be the base model. After that, the RDX becomes extremely less competitive in an area that Acura routinely dominates - PRICE. A BASE Q5 turbo is within 1k. wow.

 

Cannon wait to see a comparo of a fully loaded 41k Acura RDX against the Q5, X3, EX, Volvo, (new) GLK, etc. Will be mighty interesting to see what the pros think of the price/value/performance against the competition.

 

46k even. 5k more than the 2013 RDX. i dunno acura...and thats a fully loaded Q5, with panoramic roof, rear hvac, QUATTRO, 8 speed tranz, and all the bells and whistles that Audi packs, especially the 510 watt B&O sound system which is unbelievably fantastic. So, even with the last gen RDX - there is still a 5k gap..this time, its wayyyy more close, and the base model Audi is basically the same price as the base RDX. Lets see where all the Acura loyalty and faith is now, now that the RDX is NOT a $32k truck. I feel much more CRV sales, or people jumping ship to other car makers. 40k is too much for the Acura RDX shopper, and now, the somehow terribly expensive Q5 is being alluded to as a good value and the comparo car. Acura shoppers are quite a funny pack of squirrels.

 

I'm not sure where everyone is getting that the 2013 does not have automatic climate control. Yes, Acura put in knobs(easier to use in my opinion) instead of rockers/buttons, but it is still an automatic system with digital readout and auto mode. Look at the pictures closer.

Is this not an automatic climate control? I'm pretty sure the review is wrong unless Acura made two different versions for the base and technology package.

 

In the articles I've read on line, it looks like the dual zone climate control and the HID lights come only with the Tech package. The Acura site doesn't give much detail yet.

 

either way...its a real low ball, low class move on acuras part. The base model is looking like a 36k joke, especially WITHOUT AWD included in that price. Even the Audi comes with STANDARD quattro.

what i think is going on is some ambiguity between whether the tech package may include dual zone control and/or automatic climate control. Car and driver reports that the tech includes dual zone control, but one would like to think Acura at least gave any model an auto feature.

 

...given this pricing and terrible staggering of equipment, why would you not buy an MDX instead. makes no sense.

 

today, been strongly considering heading to the dealership and buying an MDX, before they F that up too. I love the current gen, just dont see how the 2013 RDX is remotely close to being worth over 40k without SHAWD and some other luxury items.
