The wife's 13 RDX (129k miles) had the Check AWD System indicator come on a couple weeks ago. Apparently when this happens, AWD fxn goes away and the vehicle is essentially a FWD vehicle. Not a lot of info out there on this issue for the 2nd gen RDX, but this is apparently not an uncommon happening on similar vintage CRVs. From my research, the dealerships can't really pinpoint the cause and it appears the common fix is replacement of the rear differential ($$$).
I've tried (3) different long shots:
1. Fluid replacement...though the "old" fluid only had 2k miles on it.
2. Relay replacement
3. Control module swap
As this RDX is well out of warranty, my next stop is my excellent local trusted mechanic. Anyone dealt with this issue? What was the resolution?

Yo! I’m sitting at an Acura service waiting room right now for the exact same problem.
Dealership said I need to replace the edps solenoid. Almost $1k.
seems like the diagnosis is all over the place, sounds like someone will have to do some major troubleshooting. ie; testing continuity to the diff motor pump, testing diff unit, to testing the various sensors, to testing the AWD Control unit, etc. etc.
JEarly thanks for the post...and sorry that you're having the same problem. Replacement of the EDPS solenoid was another of the fixes I found and Honda actually has a TSB (15-016) for 2012-13 CRVs which outlines its replacement. I get the sense that when this issue occurred in vehicles under warranty, the prescribed fix was to just replace the entire differential. To replace the EDPS solenoid is not such a simple matter as the driveline has to be disconnected, both the pump motor and front half of the diff has to be removed. I'm going to take the wife's RDX to my go-to mechanic for his assessment. At least your proposed fix is not replacement of the entire rear diff...that'd be 3x what they're charging you for the EDPS solenoid replacement...

You have not changed the timing belt on the 120K miles?
To follow up the origin and fix of my RDX's "Check AWD System indicator"...it was in fact a bad rear differential EDPS solenoid which my mechanic replaced for $460
