if a tranny costs $3K, u think we could pitch in a couple bucks each and ask Jens to open a blown tranny?? the more people we get, the less money it is on everyone...we could set up a PayPal acct and everything...just a thought.

Why would we do this as we already know what the problem is? It has been even written in several articles.

It's a bearing in the tranny that seems to be flaking metal under stress and clogging the passageways in the tranny.

100k warranty extention

Interesting as Honda claims in the "blurb" that the 2001-2002 CLS only have clutch pack problems...

Let's see:

Bearings shedding
Torque converter problems.
Clutch pack(s) disintegrating.
Bad solenoids/Clogged solenoids
Bad PCM (well, this was a story told to TLS folks and the PCM can cause a lot of grief and doesn't mean a design problem in all of them)
Overheating (there is a way to get this info by tapping into the PCM harness)
Junk from bearings, clutch packs, etc getting into all of the small passages and causing the unit to fail
Junk from the ferrous metal getting stuck in the solenoids (they do generate a magnetic field) causing 2nd and 3rd gear to burn each other’s clutch packs out

And so on....

They did offer an extended warranty. So, at least they did something...

I’d be willing to toss in a few bucks to see an “expert” rip apart a failed tranny. And even more exciting – having an expert suggest a bunch of changes to that tranny, do them, and turn it into a test mule (we’re talking deep pockets here…)

I'll throw in some money to get this done. Seems like it's the only way we'll ever know for sure what's going wrong in there.
