Very weird - 1 to 2 takes a while

This is the second time this has happend to me...

I started my car earlier and let it warm up for 5 minutes. Jumped in and begain driving. 10 minutes later the car started driving weird. After a complete stop, I would begin going like normal, but 1st gear would climb up to 4-5k before shifting into 2nd! At first I thought that it was my imagination, but after stopping and going a few times, it kept happening.

I pulled over, turned the car off then back on and began to drive again...problem gone! Drives fine now. WTH? This happened a couple of weeks ago and now it happend today again. Is the tranny failing or is the computer messing up? I am guessing it is the PCM since after I restart the car everything is fine again?

What else could cause 1st to get stuck for so long before shifting into second?

Car wasn't cold at all. It was at normal operating temp.

thanks

Great! I just checked my fliud and it is a little low (only up to first tick mark) but also it is very dark brown almost black! And smells bad.

GUess its going huh? Should I bother taking it in yet? Hasn;t slipped on me all day and it's been driving fine but the fluid scares me. FYI my last fluid change was probably arounf 49k and I am now at 61k.

Anyone have any advice? I know the silence is probably because I am asking questions that have been answered before but I have been searching since yesterday and not finding much info on what I should do next.

I guess just sit tight and wait for it to finally crap out? I am just very uneasy driving now not knowing when it is going to go. I am hoping It doesnt crap out while I am going 75 with a mack truck behind me

Issues once again:
- Was taking a while to shift out of 1st. Upshifted to 2nd only after RPM reached 5k. 2nd time this happend this month.

-SS was acting up in second gear a few weeks ago and getting stuck in 2nd gear. Only way to get out of it was to slap it into Neutral and back to D5.

-Stopped and restarted car and all was fine again. Hasnt happened again for two days.

-Fluid is very dark brown (almost black) and smells funky.

-Fliuid was last changed almost 15k mi ago. Could I just need another fluid change?

thanks

Take it in. Seems they are replacing them with a bit less of a hassle lately. Doesn't hurt to try.

BINGO! You have discovered Acura customer service. If you are lucky it will not lock up while you are driving at 70mph. You might want to go for a drive and keep kicking down to "passing gear" over & over till it 's ? Really sad that with known problems, Acura does not seem to give a rats ass about it. I will say that AFTER all the lights on the dash lit up, did they know it was Xmas?, the dealer was very good about taking it in to fix it. Like I said on the other post, no more of my money ever going to a Honda product. Can't wait for the IS300 coupe.

Not at my dealer. Yesterday when it started to act up, I called the dealer and was told that if you could not make it do it on demand or a "check engine" light was on there was nothing they could do. At least it went out compleatly on the 17 mile drive home from work.

just had that problem it maybe the t. converter overheated at one point causing the debris to get in to your tranny and maybe mess up your valve body and backing plate, my car started shifting really krazy and im now waiting to get it back. stop and go traffic at long intervals will do it. it seems to be worse in d4 much smoother in d3.
