Tranny question?

My fukin tranny blew the other day at 51,000 miles, Acura wont replace it because they voided the warranty in 2002, because of a salvage title. They want to sell me the rebuild tranny for $2700 + tax with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. So I was getting some prices from local tranny shops, they mostly all say from $1500-$2500, my question is I was looking at Level 10 transmissions, there price $2200-$2600, and the person I spoked to said that when they rebuild it, it would never fail again "bullshit" you think or are they a good tranny shop for are cars.? My other question is should I just get a tranny and sell my car so I dont have to worry about dumping another $2000 for a problem which is probly goin to occur again or should I trust these shops of rebuilding a tranny that will last the life of the car.?

very good question. i actually emailed level 10 with some specific questions on their (PTS or performance transmission kit). I might forego a warranty rebuild altogether and just pay one time when and if my transmission does blow to have them overhaul and pimp the tranny out.

However, i have seen some comments here and there about level 10 transmissions but i have not really been able to find a thread with some one that actually had the tranny rebuilt there..

if you know of any threads post up links.. i tried searching but came up with miscellaneous other stuff...

Also, if they are charging only moderately higher prices than most regular tranny shops to repair / rebuild, i think it is worth it..

The crux of the situation lies in whether they fully understand the technical aspects of the transmission design flaw, and whether they can actually implement remedies that can fix the problem at the root, thus preventing future issues from arising.

simply rebuilding the transmission is not enough IMHO. Even if they use tighter tolerance parts and clutches. I remember reading in the tranny faq that part of the problem was a specific batch of clutch plates with surface roughness exceeding tolerance limits due to poor Quality Control at a specific plant vs another plant also producing the part. Anyways, this combined with poor lubrication from what i understand leads to an increase in clearance inside the transmission thus causing the famous drop out from 5th gear to 2 gear, the problem lies in the 2 to 3rd gear clutch packs etc. so. Maybe some one with more experience can chime in.

thanks again.
