Tranny problem?
Tranny problem?
Hi all,
I'm a newbie here and recently bought a 2002 Cl-S with 50000 miles on it(car is stock). The transmission has been replaced in the car at around 30000 miles. The transmission seems to work fine but lately I've noticed a problem - if I'm doing about 30 mph and I floor it, the car downshifts from 2nd to 1st but it doesn't catch into first gear, instead the rpm scream to the redline (as if the car was in neautral). My questions is: is this a typical transmission problem that needs to be fixed or is this just a problem that exists because of the downshift from 2nd to 1st (is it normal for Cl's to do this)?
I would appreciate any help, thanks.

You have a bad transmission – and it needs to be replaced.
The problem is called "flare." (kind’ a like having a blown clutch in a manual)
You need a new tranny.
Some of the later and revised trannies got some fixes that "helped" prevent the 5-to-2 spontaneous downshift. Hard to know what band-aid fixes your particular slushbox received.
You sure wouldn't enjoy being stranded out on the road.
So, take it in, and tell the dealer that you have a problem. Better yet, see how you can make it happen in and around the area of the dealer and get a tech or manager in the car and SHOW THEM.
