Odd whine with new tranny.
I had my transmission replaced over a year ago, but since day one it's made a whine noise during acceleration. It almost sounds exactly like a supercharger, so it's kinda cool...but still worries me. I had my service advisor note on my account that it was making the noise. Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks

I'm glad they notated that.
While I'm not waiting at the starting blocks to head to the Acura dealer for a "ATF squirter", perhaps you might want to let them inspect your tranny.
OTOH, since it made the noise from day one, I doubt it's 2nd gear.
It shouldn't make the noise -- especially relevant if the original DID NOT make the noise.
I could understand this being "AOK" if they had installed straight-cut gears -- like a racing gearbox. (I think not! )
IMO, noise in regular gearbox == not AOK.
YMMV
BTW, did they put in a "new" one or a "rebuild"?

Secondary shaft is used by 1st and 2nd (not 3rd, 4th, 5th, or R)

Maybe you should let them have a look at your 2nd gear too....
Matt,
1st and 2nd are on the secondary shaft. (There are three shafts: mainshaft, countershaft, and secondary shaft).
The power only going through the secondary shaft during 1st and/or 2nd.
The power is being directed via the secondary shaft; it gets back into the countershaft and final driver gear.
The important point is having 2nd and 1st actually getting POWER transfered through that shaft.
Is it quiet in: 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse? The power doesn't flow through the secondary shaft when in those gears.

I have the whine on my 03 CLS. It varies with RPMs and is most audible in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd... hard to hear in 4th with the road noise on the freeway. Usually the range I hear this noise starts at around 2000-2500 RPMs on up.
I took my car in for this problem at 20k miles. They replaced the transmission. Transmission #2 started whining again shortly after they replaced it, but I was annoyed at the first experience (without the CLS for 2 weeks and in a Ford Escort loaner) that I didn't want to take it back.
I just took my car in today for it though... I'd had enough. 42k miles now, whine is as loud as ever, and the transmission is slipping and shifting like crap.
But at least I got me an 04 TL loaner this time around.
There's a couple of other people on here who've noted this issue. We had a couple threads on it too, but it was a while ago. At least one loaner 03 TL-P that I've had from the dealership also whined, but the noise was more subdued than in mine.

The whining is not a good sign.
Slipping == flare == time for a new tranny...
Good luck on your next one...

It doesn't show exactly where the problem is, but it does elimate the other shafts.
The 1st and 2nd gear are all part of the same assembly.
SEE the service manual... The assembly is called: 1st/1st hold/2nd clutch assembly.
Since the noise only happens in 1st and 2nd, it sounds like somethings amiss there.
IOW, that doesn't sound right and you might want to keep an eye on that.
And, 2nd gear is the problem area they were talking about in that bulletin/recall. And, I don't think a "squirter" is going to quiet that down. IMO, it just might turn out that might find something that looks funny if they aren't clowns.
Personally, if you knew the techs weren't going to mess something else up, you might want to have another tranny tossed in. Whine is not a good thing -- at least not with helical gears. It would be another story if you had a set of straight cut gears -- like a race box.
Straight cut gears towards the center
