Not the same PICK-UP as before...

So i just got my 01 CL-S back from getting the tranny replaced a couple days ago and i'm noticing that it doesn't have that same "pickup" as it did before. Is it just me or can anyone else atest to this? Please let me know.

Also the way i knew it was my transmission was b/c it would idle high and hestitate to shift gears going from 2nd - 3rd... Well now while when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd it shifts like it's suppose to, however, when shifting it does a minor jerk! Has anyone experienced this?

I've seen other threads on here where performance decreased noticeably after a tranny replacement..

Well if you are still feeling a "jerk" when the tranny shifts, I recommend checking your front motor mount (located below the ABS unit box on the passenger side of the engine bay). They have a high rate of failure and cause jerks when shifting because the engine is torquing...

I got mine replaced @ 45K and have had absolutely no problems with the shifting. The tranny shifts smooth and I didn't feel any decrease in performance whatsoever.

No problems here either.

It's prolly one of those things to where i'll have to get either dad or brother, prolly my brother since he'll actually push it, to see if they notice it or not. Just to get a second opinion. It could be me

I had the same effect with the tranny fix about 4 weeks ago, I think it was because they swapped out the control part as well. The shift timings have changed so the car appears to react slower when you want to accelerate and the gear changes have become more jerky almost like a 4 speed.

This really hacked me off as I loved the way it was before................

EXACTLY!!!!!!!! That's exactly what i'm experiencing Scamparoni!!!!! You hit it on the head. I'll try and put it in the SS and shift down in order to get speed or even w/o doing that and just pressing on the pedal, it seems as if it won't do anything! I'm like what's going on? So if there not fix for this?

I noticed it as well, from what I hear the PCM they install with the trans is slightly detuned. I haven't yet been able to get answers as to whether or not it affects performance significantly or not. I do know that when my car was still stock, before and after the original trans replacement it seemed to kick in a lot harder with the original trans, but I was forced to replace it when it failed to shift from 2->3 and downshifted on it's own. Someone, anyone have more info on this?

I also have a caddy srx. Many srx owners had their computers reprogrammed because of a backlash on acceleration. They claim their V-8 have lost 1-2 seconds to 60 and their cars have lost the kick in ass V-8 power so there may be something to the acura story about sluggish performance after the new tranny is installed with the new softwear program.

for the acura transmission what i think the main probblem is that they have dropped main line pressure, by doing that you have a slower working accumilators and that gives you more sloppy and delayed shifts than before. also the computer is messing with selinoids that aalso affects shift timing and firmness, but the main thing i think is because the oil jet kit creats another leak in the system that drops pressure in the whole trans and by doing that you affect everything.

Just unplug your battery for a full night, plug it back in, drive it like you stole it for a half an hour or 15 min. then shut her down. come back to the car after a half a day and you will feel the power start to come back over the next 2 days. I had the same problem, and this solved it. Don't know why and don't want to argue, just happy it was fixed, whatever it did.

also, have your radio codes and navi code ready.

ya im pretty sure that acura detunes the car after a tranny replacement, it just makes sense. and ya ppl back at the TL forums have that problem too, but i think they just detune the Type-S(praying for my tranny not to die 50k and goin) bec of all the power they put out.

P.S. i dont have papers proveing my statement but from wat i hear , yes they do detune the engine.

I do notice that the 2-3 shift is way too hard....almost like a sling shot! This must be from the new PCM. It really sucks! The old tranny shifted way better.

Lightbulb Is it possible......

Maybe there is a logical explanation for the crappy shift characteristic when the control module thing gets changed out with the tranny.

I just got a Lexus ES300 which also has serial tranny problems but the fix is a firmware[software] upgrade to the control unit. What I was told was that the control module "learns" your driving style and adapts to the way you make the car shift. So the shift timings changes with time to be your kind of driving. This of course gets lost when the battery is disconnected and the learn process starts again.

If I read the various threads here [including my own] the shifting seems to get better over time and someone even said a fix would be to take the battery off overnight.

Anyone know if the CL PCM also "learns" the driving style even if it is a slow learner
[maybe it has ADD]
