My tranny almost caused an accident !
MY CL-P has been randomly jerky shift & over-reving for a week now, so I called Acura to drop off my CL. So I was driving on the tollway to the Acura dealer going about 75mph in auto mode, not SS mode, suddendly the car slams forward dropped to 30mph, revs to redline for a second, my car swerves, cars behind me swerving & braking...
That was F@#$!@# scary.... No D5 blinking or anything.
I am now driving an RSX loaner, my service advisor was very courteous & professional, we talked for half an hour regarding Acura's transmission problems. They are going to give me a replacement tranny within a week.
My advisor said that any tranny replaced after the date of 100K notice warranty being issued, should have the RE-DESIGN that solves the clutch pack problem & I should not have future multiple tranny replacement. Is my advisor's info. correct regarding the new re-design tranny or am I still getting the shitty old design ?
BTW, my CL-P has 29K miles, and yes I will make an NHTSB report.
That was F@#$!@# scary.... No D5 blinking or anything.

Sounds like what happened to me, without the "almost" accident part. Mine dropped suddenly from 5th to 2nd. Glad to hear you're OK.
My service advisor said they're fixed as of Jan. 1, 2003. So we'll see I guess...
Here's the link to file the complaint:

Atleast you got an Acura loaner. Per the words of my service advisor "It's ACURA'S policy to only allow rentals, not Acura loaners during a tranny replacement." Honestly, I couldn't have cared at all that I was driving a Chevy Impala. I just wanted my car to be fixed.

I just got the call from the dealer today that my transmission is in so I'm dropping my car off tomorrow. None too soon as it's shifting very sluggishly and flares, flashes, and all the other fun things a dying transmission does.
Thankfully none of the roads to the dealer from here are over 60mph so I won't be above 2nd gear redline in case it tries to drop from 5th to 2nd.

When it was jerky-shifting for a week, I was in denial stage saying this can't happen to my CL, other people, but not me ![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Well, my service advisor said his techs will be VERY careful w/ my bodykit, I told him he owes me $2K+ if something happens to my kit or wheels
No big deal, an RSX to beat for a week & a new re-designed tranny, I hope
I told him I & my family might just walk away from Honda/Acura brand in the future if Acura don't re-build their quality, he said give please Acura another chance :o

But you're not the only one. I'm in denial too. My tranny is bucking in 2nd and 3rd every day. And I drive 75mph everyday and 100mph every week. So when I crash..... But mine has been doing this for well over a year.
I've been gauging it pretty good. Unless this thing goes suddenly, I should be able to get a new tranny (at 70,000 miles) sometime next month or April. I have an overseas trip coming up so maybe I'll drop it off then.
In the meantime, glad you and everyone ok, and let us know if they mess with your car too much (that's what I'm worry about too...getting it back in worse shape).

Ya i have already changed my transmisson last October, and now the shfiting feels weird aroudn 2-3 gears. It feels like it just doesnt want to shift. Also i feel a sever loss in power. The car is not as fast as it was before. I step on it, and nothin happens. Is this also a sign of a tranny problem, the loss of power. I am taking it in on friday to see whats up. WHen i had my tranny changed, the tech told me that it was a brand new tranny, and that it "should" be one of the new company ones. So who knows.

My tranny also took a huge $h!t at 50,000 miles. Glad to hear your okay and its getting fixed. I talked to the Dealer and they said that the new tranny has some new filters and reinforced parts, so I wonder if that was where some to the cost cutting was at.

I'm beginning to think that Acura did indeed correct what was wrong w/the 1st batch of trannies with these new ones (i.e. past 11/02). Almost all the dealerships are saying that these trannies are very different from the 1st ones put in and that these have recitified the problem. Only time will tell, but charles, glad to see you're ok.

I'm not sure how dealerships can say they're different, considering they can't really do anything except install and remove them. According to my dealership, Acura doesn't even tell them much of what was changed.

CharlesNguyen, since no one has mentioned it yet, report this incident to the NHTSA.
As far as Honda having fixed the tranny issue, I'm sure the new trannies are different and Honda is telling all their dealers to tell customers that the tranny has beed improved, but the question is, will these changes actually make the tranny more reliable. Maybe they're not correctly identifying the source of the problem. Only time will tell.

Glad to hear you're alright.
Check my sig...mine's just about wrecked. I'll be calling the dealer this week or next week to take it in. It's sorta fun when it spins 3rd and 4th, but it's starting to worry me a little with how hard it slams into gear.
This one has about 26k on it (in my car, anyway) since 06-02. Maybe, I'll get a good one next time. As others (and you) have stated...report it!
