ok wtf! i just had my transmission switched out 2 months ago and i still got a BFGA. where the hell is my 2005+ trans?? good thing i have a 3 year warranty, but if anything starts to go wrong, i know what the problem is...o well, everything is good so far...

I got BFGA too, but I don't know if it means anything in particular. can't possibly be 2005 left over, just impossible.

by the way. Just went and checked my tranny. I have a BFGA and Its my factory one (vin matches) plus oil jet installed. I have a 03 CL, and its holding up with almost 102K miles I think this BFGA MFGA is meaningless..

I hope so, I am seeing people getting replacements with BFGA even 2009, I just got 1 month back. My BFGA sticker was not new... Maybe in the beginning they were putting new MGFA stickers on all re manufactured transmissions, then they stopped doing it to save costs.....

sounds like maybe they are just rebuilding tannies? maybe a couple years ago, at the "peak" of tranny failures they had to cast some new cases because they didnt have enough old cases to rebuild?

whats up with this tranny cooler stuff, I thought it was ruled out that hot tranny fluid DOES NOT contribute to transmission problems. Don't you think Acura would be all over recommending to install tranmission cooler had they determined that this was indeed the problem?

The issue is poor circulation & lack of cooling due to it.
Heat is bad, cooling is good.
The cooler also cools the engine because the oem transmission cooler is in the radiator so you are cooling the transmission & engine.
It can never be bad to make an engine & transmission cooler.

Can't be bad, but can be waste of money. In the beginning some people where installing tranny coolers, and their transmission still died. On the other hand, if my transmission still on warranty why would I want to install anything related to transmission? Don't you know those pricks, they were giving people hard time to cover transmission even when their car was lowered, but if they see transmission cooler all bets are off. Especially now, they would be more than happy to find any possible excuse not to help you.

My car is nowhere near in warranty so that is not my situation, if I had remaining warranty I would have put the cooler in, hoped I did not need it and if the transmission died in warranty I would remove the cooler before bringing the car in.
You do what you deem right for your situation, the bottom line is the cooler is a good thing.

The circulation speed of the fluid might be reduced due to an additional piping and force needed to push the fluid through the cooler. This might lead to even worse than before supply of fluid to the weak parts of the transmission. So yes, the fluid will be cooler, but the rate of fluid supply to the critical parts will be reduced, thus causing even more problems.
Its just simple physics, if you add more piping to your circulation - it will slow down the rate of circulation, and the problem of not enough fluid will be even worse at places that need it the most. I understand that cooler might not restrict the flow and etc, but still, its an additional route for fluid to travel. Just things to consider. This might be OK on other cars, but with our transmission that has problems of poor fluid supply in critical parts, I would not risk adding any additional hops for fluid to travel.

The install adds a few feet of hose and the cooler.
The hose replaces a small hose between the filter and transmission, there is no appreciable change in the routing or flow.
Have you done a flow analysis? do you know what is going on in there? I bet the manufacturers do.
Do you think Comptech opened it's self to litigation, they make a cooler kit, do you think B&M and a slew of companies opened themselves to litigation by manufacturing coolers that are installed on millions of cars yearly?
Don't install a cooler if you don't want to but also please don't post misinformation.

No I did not measure the fluid flow, did you?
Unless there is an additional pump inside the cooler -- it is just physically not possible to have the fluid travel this extra distance without reducing the circulation flow or adding extra pressure to pump the fluid. You might say its insignificant, and you might be right, but non of us know how significant it is, and given our POS transmission, even a small bit might make a difference in lubrication. Bottom line that non of us know, so I'd rather stick with what Acura recommends, I am sure they would be offering coolers as accessories had they deemed this necessary.
I am not misinforming anybody, but the need of transmission cooler still remains a big argument when it comes to our cars. Try doing searches and see what people say...

I have a cooler, my car runs cooler. I am certain Comptech did full due diligence before bringing the cooler to market which is why I got the same one they sell.
Acura recommended the failed bandaid repair before they brought the oiljet internally and still transmissions fail. You go right ahead and trust Acura.
Have a great evening.

owners of CLs or TLs that i have talked to in my town, who have experienced transmission problems have invested in these coolers and say have nothing but good to say about it. Im not sure if my transmission is rebuilt or not but i will be investing in a cooler a.s.a.p my 01 3.2 CL drives and shifts fine at 65k miles and id like to keep it that way, any more preventative measures i can take to keep it running strong?

From what I remember the recall stating, the 3rd gear clutch pack was going out and clogging the trans- eventually burning it out. If a properly rebuilt trans addressed the lubing probs and beefed up the clutch pack, the only thing that I'd add would be an inline external filter. I think the addition of an external filter would not only help filter out contaminants, but also add fluid capacity to the transmission. Adding one of those magnetic coolers that sleeve over the external filter would also be my choice. Just my 2 cents...
