I'm the newest member of the spent tranny club
The shifts of my tranny started slipping lightly a few hundred miles ago... Not fully shifting into 5th, You know the story. Call me crazy, but it seemed to slip more when accelerating out of slow 90 degree turns while in 2nd or 3rd gear.
Last week I ran mostly highway. My tank was bone-dry at my last fill-up, I put in 14.7 gallons before the pump stopped. I cringed when I paid over $26.00 and my odometer trip only read 312. (That equals 22.21 mpg.) I think my friend's big-assed Chevy Tahoe Z-71 got better mileage last week.
So even though the original dealer "changed" my tranny fluid when certifying the car 4K miles ago, I checked my fluid again. It was dark brown already and smelled like I had just drilled through a bar of aluminum. So off I went to a different dealer who's mechanic checked the fluid and jumped in for a quick drive. He drove about 500 yards and U-turned- not good. I was evidentally on the cusp of a very possible failure. Another tranny is on order as we speak.
QUESTION: They also said very clearly that they had no control over weather I would get a re-built or new tranny. It was totally up to Honda/Acura corporate. Does anybody know different?
We will see how things go!

Once that ATF is burnt -- the show is over and it's time to send the tranny back to rebuild city.

Since you didn't mention any mileage, and I'm really curious since I've got something like 60k on my car and I know that the tranny will slip before 100k (or else I'll somehow figure out how to make it).
My question: If my car is out of the normal warranty, and I'm getting the tranny replaced as part of the extended 100k/7 year... will I get a loaner for the time that my car is out?
