I joined the club!!!

Tranny died 3/27/02 @ 60,485mi.

Acura is replacing it even though my warranty has expired. They are also paying for a rent car for however long it takes to get a replacement. JOHN EAGLE ACURA and my service rep ROMAN BLANDINO get nothing but high praise from me. By the time I got to the dealership the zone rep had already been called to make the call for replacing the tranny out of warranty. I was in a rent car and gone in about an hour.

"Mad props to these guys".

That's ALOT of miles on your CLS and the tranny died

I was hoping the tranny issues only happened under 30K or so since it seemed to be the trend

Now I'm scared!:o

Wow ok this confirms what the Acura Customer Relations Rep told me on the phone and what TypeR posted. If the tranny were to die out of warranty, then Acura would take care of the problem. Customer would pay for labor but Acura would take the bulk of the cost.

I did not catch his name. It was all done before I got to the dealer. I will call and find out for you.

Sorry to hear about you loosing another tranny. I hope I don't have that happen to me. Only time will tell.

How long tranny covered?

Did Acura mention exactly how long they'd cover the tranny?

And how much is just the tranny labor rebuild? If it's less than $1k, it might be cheaper just paying for the labor than buying an extended Acura warranty.

The labor will be around $500-600.

sorry to hear that, my acura dealer was the same, they took care of it, even though it took them a month to fix, but they told me that upfront.

they paid about a grand for the rent that I had for a month

ACURA will warranty the new tranny for 12months or 12,000mi. If I was willing to pay part of the replacement costs (no one said exactly how much) then they would give me a 36month or 36,000mi. warranty. I took the first option, since this is a design problem. I didn't think I should have to pay anything.

That's about what mine are so if mine goes it will probably be a ways off, even though it shifts 1-2 really weird now. Kinda stuttering-sluggish 1-2 shift a lot.

Could you describe how yours died? Signs? Symptoms?

It started by kind of hunting for the right gear. It seemed to be confused as to what gear was needed. It was kind of subtle. It then started to feel like the tire was spinning when I was accelerating out of a turn. Finally, when accelerating the RPM's were going up extremely fast but the car was barely moving. Once in top gear there were no problems. I was afraid it was going to leave me stranded, but that did not happen. At the end there was no doubt that this was a tranny problem. Hope this helps.

Oh crapolla...

Sorry to hear that Marine1,

Unfortunately (I sure hope not, but going to take it in tomorrow anyways) but I might be on my second one shortly. I'm taking it easy on the throttle now (until I can get it into the dealer which will be first thing tomorrow), and since I have experienced it once and had to go through hell from Acura due to supposed 'abuse', I want to make damn sure we are on the same page here.

I'm about to hit 50k, but I believe these rebuilt transmissions carry an additional warranty on them (don't remmember what it is, can anyone else inlighten us here??) but just to make sure I cam going to take it in tomorrow before 50k is hit.

I'll keep everyone upto date.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that your tranny has again failed. This does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about the new tranny that I just got. To answer your question. They gave me an additional 12months or 12,000mi. warranty on the replaced tranny.
