good news for the automatic trannys
well as you know my dad works for Honda. I just got a e-mail from him saying (this is already a done deal)(he got the e-mail from parts quality)
they (Honda)will extend your warrenty on 01 and 02 CL,TL,Prelude,Accord, and Odyssey FOR 7 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES
Now I was asking dad if it was a quality issue that caused all these trannys to act up. he said no it was a poor design on the engineer's part.( i forget exactly what he said but it was something like this, something was grinding or rubbing which cause metal shaving to go down into the bottom of the tranny which got into the bearing(which if any you guys do anything mechianical you guys know it's a must to keep bearings clean and greased. then the shavings out get sucked up in the oil pump for the tranny and then it would plug it up and no oil(or very little) could get into the pump and it would lock up the tranny.

1. Is this just an extended warranty on the tranny?
2. Is this just if you are on your second tranny? <--- (I doubt it but just want clarification)

#1 yes it's extended warrenty(that's exactly what it said in the e-mail)
#2 I don't know if it's for 1 or 50 new trannys you'll have to wait for the letter or call your dealer. it didn't say if it was for 1 or multiple transmission replacements.
but i do know they did correct the error on the design (dad said that)

The article isn't very clear. It states the warranty will be extended on vehicles with "a problem transmission". does that mean all the cars listed below (in the article) automatically get the extension or do you have to register a transmission problem with the dealer to receive the extension? Does it only cover the tranny? Does this mean I don't need to buy the extended warranty now?

The USA Today article clearly states that it will be a 7yr/100K warrany on the tranny only.
If this is in fact what happens, then having your own extended warranty still sounds like a good idea.

oops, missed the line that says "Honda says the extended warranty, which covers the transmission only..." I think a new cost beneift analysis is needed for the extended now. Wouldnt a 1000 + bukcks cover just about everything that could break except the engine and trannY?

Hopefully we will find out shortly, I have an e-mail into Acura concerning the exact same thing.
Trust me for as much as I paid for the Extended (just because of the damned transmission), they hopefully will be doing something for us.
Now the funny thing is everywhere that I have read, Honda/Acura is trying to save 'face', but sadly enough I think it is way too little, and way too late

couldn't they have told you the letter was coming in the mail via email? a phone call was necessary for that!?
anyone think the extended is still worth it now that the tranny is covered?
