There I was . . . Going up a steep hill on a narrow country road, after dark, in a snow storm, and the dreaded transmission defect struck without warning. I was dead in the water in the traffic lane. I put it in neutral and coasted backwards to a very narrow shoulder to get out of traffic. I was still about 18" into the traffic lane - dark and snowing, remember.

Bad news #2 - My cell phone didn't have a signal.

Bad news #3 - My odometer read 100969.

Good news #1 - I walked about a half mile and knocked on a door. It turned out to be the home of the local fire chief. He called AAA for me, took me back to my CLS, turned on his flashing lights for safety, and waited with me. His wife even called my wife to let her know what was going on.

Good news #2 - I have 100-mile towing from AAA. The distance to my dealer (Crest Acura - Syracuse, NY) was 98.5 miles.

Good news #3 - Crest Acura covered my transmission replacement, parts and labor, 100%, even though the warranty was expired.

This could have turned out a lot worse for me.

Christmas did, indeed, come early.

Out of curiosity- did you recently get the recall work done (band-aid fix)? Has your tranny died before? how often did you replace your tranny fluid? sorry to hear of your problems- but happy that it was covered under warranty!
