chirping second in an automatic
Is there anyone else out there who can get there cl-s to chirp second gear in an automatic?? yes i know all you guys with manual tranny's can do it, but im talking about my 2001 cl-s buddy's with auto's. i can only do it when my car is cold, as soon as i start it i pull out of my driveway and coast down the street about a mile to the main road trying to keep the car cool, the once im on the main road i take off the vsa and stomp the gas and i can get the front left tireto let out a loud chirp everytime, but once it get to normal operating temp its a lot harder to do it on a straightaway.. anyone else out there get there cl to chirp second or was i blessed with the only 2001 automatic with super powers! hahahaha j/k ohh by the way my car is bone stock besides the k&n airfilter.
the tires get warm... it is called friction.
I really do not recommend you beat on your car when it has not reached standard operating temps.
do as wish.. your glass tranny will poop out just sooner.

yeah i know that friction makes tires get warm, im not an idiot. im just saying my car is still cold the only times i can get second gear to chirp, i think its awesome, ive never drove or see another automatic car that can chirp second gear, hot or cold...
my tranny was replaced 15,000 miles ago and it shifts real smooth as well when im driving it normal but when i really get on it and redline it the shifts come in nice and hard

i used to do it all the time with my bad tranny but i just got a new one in about 200 miles ago so now even if i redline it shifts realy smoothly... umm flooring your car when its cold (not normal engine temperature) is very bad... the oil is cold.. it barely lubs up the tranny and as a result shifts are harder causing the chirp... this is like flooring the car, letting go and slamming down on it again... its so bad for it i dono why anyone would do this to their CL's and TL's.. i love mine too much ( i do race tho... but do it gently lol)
yeah i understand what you guys are talking about, ive only done it 2 times for the same reason that i know its not good to abuse the car when its cold, i was just late for work when i discovered that the car could chirp second when cold, and i did it one more time since then just cause i think its cool! hehehe

hmm. funny. my car still chirps into 2nd even after a 1/2 hr of driving. but i haven't tried it with the VSA off. but i am able to repeat this time and again despite having warm/hot tires. this summer was pretty hot and every once in a while i would go WOT and it was able to do this.
we do have glass transmissions therefore i refrain from such activity now. ...most of the time.

how those pistons feel when they slap against the clyinder wall in the morning when its not warmd up? bet your motor likes that too. anyways got an 01 cl-s auto ,i've spun them before goin up a slight hill in 2nd, dont ask me how.(only once tho!) but they chirp in 2nd with/without VSA quite often. with k&n drop in-(without bottom air box, tubing and the u/horn), and a hyperground system oh yeah replaced tranny 7,000 ago.
I can get mine to do do this from time to time. I don't do it very often but usually when I do it has been driven awhile so I would think the tires are already pretty warm. On another note, personally I could care less if the hard shifting screws up the tranny. I don't drive it to protect it, I drive it to enjoy it. Glass tranny? I say, who gives a shit, it's covered for 100k!
Well if your still on the crappy stock Michelins that's pretty easy. I could chirp into 3rd even when my tires were warmed up when I had Michelin PS's but that's cuz they were practically bald. Can't chirp for shit with these new Toyo Proxes 4.

Stock tires + slick blacktop/concrete -> possible 2nd gear chirp

Yes, the stock tires + crappy pavement == 2nd gear chirp...
Pretty hard to chirp the tires into 2nd with R-rated, max-performance, and/or ultra-high performance tires mounted on the CLS. (3.5L, FI, NOS and other motor upgrades not included
)Side note: a few people got chirps into second before their tranny exploded...
