2001 CL at 168k miles.. tranny done?
Hey all,
I've had my auto 2001 CL since 2006 and have had ZERO problems until I was driving to work the other day.. About to pull into the parking lot when suddenly it feels like I'm in neutral.. The rpm's shoot to the roof and my car is just drifting.. I have to stop completely and shut the engine off..Start it up with no problem and seems to shift ok. I brush this off not being very knowledgeable but then notice the behavior continuing.. Car will accelerate and then stutters and feels like it's just downshifting on it's own. VSA, check engine, and the ! all pop during this time. Luckily I avoided the highway and made it home but it's just randomly going out at this point. By reading through many of the other posts this sounds like a bad transmission but is there any others issues this could be? I bought the car at 91k and am at 168k now. Any help or confirmation that is is transmission related would be grateful. Thank you!

Quick Cheap Best Solution for Tranny Issues - AMS Oil
I had similar problems and after the 3rd transmission replacement the service tech at the dealer told me about a solution another customer presented that I then acted upon. I replaced the transmission fluid with AMS Oil high performance transmission fluid rather than the factory fluid. It totally fixed the slipping problem and I haven't had any issues since. I drive the car pretty hard on occasion and everything has held together strong.
I would recommend changing out your transmission fluid with the AMS Oil product.
Best of Luck!
