i currently have 40k on the 01 cl-s. its on its first tranny and i dont want it to break down. should i install the comptech transmission cooler along with a full transmission fluid flush? or will this even help at all. i asked the dealer and he said that it wasnt necessary because i had the second gear lubrication done at the dealer already (recall), but im a little sketchy still. afterall it is an 01. what other things should i do to keep the tranny in top notch shape? would using sportshift cause higher temperatures in the tranny fluid and eventually cause breakdown? because i know for my sister's 00 prelude her tranny went out at 49k miles and the dealer said it was cuz of the sportshift, so she stopped using it and it still holds at 70k miles.

“Results of analysis of returned transmissions show that the symptom is not due to deterioration in durability.” (EricL note: Someone asked about quality issues and there are some issues that have a large impact on which trannies are good ones and or bad ones; it depends on some critical tolerances. There are also some temp measurements that are done later that show that high second-to-third shifts under 80+% load cause extreme heating in the third gear clutch pack. A humble conclusion: you can get a bad one and/or stay away from constant second-to-third shifting under load [think traffic and flogging the car with lots of gear changing])
