Widest front tires
#5
A 245 tire should not be mounted on a 7.5" rim, I would go 8" or wider. Also a +40 offset is not enough for that tire. My stock CLS 7.5" wheels with 225/50 tires have only a few mm of clearance between the tire and the spindle up right near the upper ball joint. I can barely put my pinky finger in there. With a wider tire and less offset it would rub for sure.

Never mind. I got the stock offset wrong. Your offset will be oK but I still would not put a 245 tire on a 7.5" rim. And you might want to go with a 35 series tire as that 40 series will be even taller than the stock tire.

I would get different wheels. Something light weight in 18x8.5 or 18x9. A higher offset is better for fitting as wide tire as possible. I would say an offset of +45-52 would be ideal.
My setup is a 18x8.5 +52 with 255 tires. With my wheels and the car this was as big as possible. With the high offset of +52, my clearance issue becomes the suspension parts on the inside of the tire. Right now my gap between the knuckle and tire is only 3mm. Auto-xer's recommend leaving 6mm of space.
I don't think you can fit anything over 255 without modifying the fenders. Maybe you could fit a 265 on a 18x9 with +45 but not sure.

Making a new choice in the next day or two.
Leaning towards 275 40 17 NT05R's right now to stuff under there.
I want to go down a size and to a lighter rim to save some weight but I don't want little rims and slicks because I don't trailer it.
But 245's are not working for me and I think stepping up to a 275 and going from a 200 tread wear 245 to a 00 treadwear 275 drag radial should be what I need.
I also plan going back to the bottle soon so I need something stickier.
