When getting different wheels/tires, do I take my CLS todealer for VSA recalibration?

I read in the owner's manual how the VSA will be messed up if you change wheel diameters or even tires.

Can one get it recalibrated at the dealer? Is there any other way to reset it so it can be set properly with the new wheels?

Have you guys that have aftermarket wheels done this?

Ask Wayne or Jens....

However, consider that while I've been "warned" about the 225s by Acura Care, I did calc the size of the stock tire worn down to the 10/32" warning mark.

So, the "diameter" of the stock 215 is about 2/3" smaller in diameter ( 1/3 + 1/3 = 2/3" ).

So, here is the link to the MXM4 (stock tire page):

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Michelin&model=Pilot+HX+MXM%2CPilot+ HX+MXM4

The diameter of the tire when NEW is 25.5".

I now subtract .67 (2/3") from the 25.5:
25.5" - .67" = 24.83"

So, I'm assuming that Acura will let the NAVI (or VSA) work for the length of the recommended tire life (yes/no)?

Here is the diameter of a RE-730 or S0-2 in a 225/45-17: 24.9"

link: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Bridgestone&model=Potenza+S-02+Pole+Positi on

Here is the diameter of a Toyo in a 225/45-17: 25.1"

link: http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines...specs/t1s.html

Here is the diameter of a Pirelli PZero Rosso in a 225/45-17: 25"

link:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...so+Asimmetrico

So, you decide, but all of the tires in 225 are bigger than the worn down size of the stock tire.

If you are going to ask someone with a 225, perhaps you should find out if they have a NAVI and the tires are nearly bald.

(I mentioned the NAVI, as it is the very sensitive to the wheel/tire size...)

Huh?

I'm just curious about VSA (the stability assist thing) and 18" wheels.

I don't even have NAVI.

I asked my dealership about that a long time ago. They say it cannot be recalibrated...but, then again, my dealership's not too swift up top.

the wheels don't matter -- what size tires are you going to get...

215 or 225 or 235

The NAVI is the most sensitive and while I've been "warned-off" about the NAVI AND VSA, the VSA should only be an issue if the wheels are NOT all the same diameter (AND FOLLOW THE SAME LOGIC RE THE WORN OUT STOCK TIRE)

You are going to put all the same size tires on (yes/no)?

So, I posted the minimum size of a tire or the stock tire -- yes?

And so what do you plan on putting on the car?

225/40-18 or 235/40-18 or ???

The 225/40-18 and 235/40-18 can be looked up just as easy.

You want a simple yes no answer, but you don't give a size!!!!!

To date there has been no way to "update" or modify the computers that are in the car.Assuming that the rolling diameter of the wheel tire combo you are considering is reasonably close to the original diamet supplied with the car you should as far as I know have no problems.Problems will occur if you do not insure that all the wheels are the same size or rolling diameter.Rolling diamet is quite simply the distance around the tire.So as long as you do not put different size wheels and tires front to rear you will alright.Jens

Just as a RED FLAG it is extreemly dangerous to mix the rims/tires set. I ended in a minor accident when I put a stock Left-Rear rim/tire with 3 nittos 235/40/18.

I ended losing grip on the stock tire while doing 50+ on 25 MPH ramp.

So be careful about it. And listen to Eric, his the CLS tech guru on this BB

EricL:

I was saying if I got a set of 18" wheels and some tires for it (I have no idea what size tires would fit the as-of-now-undetermined-wheels). So you're saying as long as all four wheels and tires are the same (which I don't see why they wouldn't be), it should be okay? Sorry if I'm not reading your responses correctly - I don't know what size tires I would get since I don't know what wheels I would get.

Ok, if you go with the 225/45-17 or 235/45-17 you should be ok (as far as VSA or NAVI goes). (Simple answer...)

If you want to go with the 18" wheels, then the 225/40-18 or 235/40-18 should be ok.

The 225s are probably what you want if you are going to be lowering the car a bit.

The 235s work fine if you are not lowering the car. I have the 235s and the VSA AND NAVI work perfectly.

The reason I mentioned the NAVI, was it is VERY sensitive to the wheel/tire size (I know you don't have it).

That's all. Good luck...
