? on tires

i know the topic has been dicussed alot, and yes i did use the search function and did research on tires before i went to the tireshop. first i went to dicount tire, and the guy told me that if i were to stick with 215-50-17 that a good choice for the money would be yokahama yk 420 at a cost of 564 out the door wiht road hazzard. he said he would not sell me 225's or 235's and warranty them so i left. i went to my budy at belle tire and he looked up our car in michillen's fitment guide and it says that we can safely put on 225/45/17, 235/45/17, and some other sizes also. for the 235/45/17 he recomended dunlop sport sp 5000. they 93w rated and our sided walls are 93v, so allitle step up 360 tread, AA traction, A heat disipation. he an get me them for $600. and he can get our stock tires for $636. he didnt recomend toya t1's because we live in michigan and it snows alot. i mentioned kumho and sumi htr's and he said that the dunlop's were better tires.
DUNLOP SP 5000 235/45/17 $600
STOCK TIRES $636
YOKAHAMA yk 420 215/50/17 $564
anyone have expeirence with either brand?? opions??

I would say pass on the stock if at all possible. What a hinderance those tires are, but you'll only truly know by changing out the tires and feeling the difference in road holding and such with adequate rubber.
I still don't really know what Acura was thinking. Those OEM tires aren't exactly cheap, either. Plus they are sad.
I think the SP9000s are a big upgrade from stock. I would assume that they have similar characteristics to the SP5000s you are considering.
Best of luck!

I like the sumo+. Very quiet, smooth and stabile. Got them for 89 per tire at Sears using Tirerack's price as Sears matches certain competitors. A 100% improvement from the stock Michelins that had become hard and slick after only 18000 miles despite having plenty of tread left.

I like my Sumitomo HTR+ tires a lot. Only had'em about a week, though.

I'm thinking that whichever tires you choose from the ones that you are considering, they will be so much better that the stocks, that you will be really happy.

Just stay away from the stock tires...

I've read that the Dunlops are noisy martha fockers...

People seem to like the Sumis...

I prefer the Pilot A/S...

i went to sears and took a printout of tirerack, the guy told me he would not honor it because it was "wholesale" and he will only honor retail. i thought that was b.s. i told him i know guys who got tirerack price match from sears, so anyways he said if i had a copy of there write-up that he would honor it.
so i guess i need a favor.
Lousin or anyone one else who got them from sears at the tirerack price if u could scan the recipt and email it to me at mjhamka28@aol.com
thanks

The two members that wanted the tirerack invoice, check your in-box. Sears invoice did not state they matched the internet price; it states that in their Sunday ads in the newspaper.
