Go with 235-45-17, thats what I have right now, they handle a lot
better than stock Michelins.

You're pressing your luck with a 40 series tire on stock rims. 245/40-17 is only 3% off, but requires a minimum of an 8" rim.

There was one member who had 235/40-17s on the car, and they also require an 8" rim (minimum). He said he didn't have problems, but where do you draw the line????

IMO, if you are using stock 7" wheels, stick with the 235/45-17 or 225/45-17.

I am interested in putting the 235/45x17 on my car. Never considered it becuase I thought they would be too wide. For those of you who responded and said you had 235/45's on your car: how did they look on the car (did the wider tire look better or was it even noticeable) and did it change the handling characteristics any?

I currently have the 235/45/17 Toyos on my 17 x 7 stock rims. All I can say is Damnnnnn! The tread design is very aggressive looking from behind, and there's a noticeable difference between the stock and this tire's width, visual perception wise. As for handling, night and day! No more squealing around corners. The car feels tighter and more sure footed. It just grabs in the corner, for lack of a better description.

The 235/45-17s on stock (7" wide) rims have no problems with lowering.

You can spend anywhere between $100 and $200+ dollars depending on make, brand, and dealer...

Thanks for the advice - you guys made the difference. I just ordered the 235/45*17 Bridgestone Turanza LS-Z from Tirerack. (No V rating available). My main priority was quietness. I previously had some Turanza Revo's on a Lexus that were whisper quiet. Hopefully these just released LS's will follow in that tradition.
