Thinking about stock RSX wheels for Drag Radials: Size Question

CL-S stock tire size: 215/50/17 17" x 7" wheel.
RSX stock tires size: 205/55/16 16" x 6.5" wheel.

The widest that'll work on the RSX wheels is a 225. What size tire should I go with on the RSX wheels? BFG DR's aren't made in 16" I think their BFG DR 2's are made in 16" but I can't find them in a 225/xx/16. Any help?

I have an extra set of RSX rims that i used when I went to the track...I just have the two front rims w/ Nitto drag radials on them. The rims are extremely light and worked well w/ the drag radials...however the front of my car was soooooo friggen low!!!! Becareful when driving this low.

the tire size for the drag radials are 205/??/16 I for got what the ?? is

yeah I wouldn't be driving around with them. I'd put them on at the track. I'm gonna go with these I think...

Just remember....the overall circumferance of the tire will be less....so ur VSA lite will come on as soon as u move the car and it will set a code for un-proper wheel ratio or something like that (i forgot) AND also when u race...ur gonna be shifting into forth before u cross the line....at about 100+ mph.....not actually but that will be what ur speedo will say.

It's really not that much less and are you saying that the VSA light will come on because the fronts are smaller than the rears? I have VSA off at the track anyways.

Also, I have to shift into 4th anyways.

Those arent drag radials, so they wont offer the soft sidewall that most dr's have. Now you know why I went with 17's. Nitto & BFG used to make a 225/50/16" dr, but they dont anymore. If you can find some used that would be best, and save yourself some $$.

If you can find a wider 16" then both bfg & nitto make 16" dr's. I hope those Yoko's work well for drag, because those are designed for road racing/auto-x.

trust me....they are alot smaller....ur car will look weird and slammed in the front and jacked in tha back. I know u race w/ the vsa off anyways...but ur gonna set a code....because the fronts are smaller than the rears. I forgot the actuall code but u will set one.

plus...I would go w/ the bfgoodridge drag radials...softer sidewall

Difference in overall diameter:

225/45/17 (what I have now) : 24.97"
225/50/16 (drag radials): 24.86"

Doesn't seem like hardly any difference. .11" ?!!!

I dunno....i went from the stock size in the front...215/50/17 to 205/??/16. I'm not sure what the ?? was but it was the same size as a normal OEM rsx tire....maybe because u allready have a smaller tire w/ the 225/45??? that it doesn't seem like much of a difference.hmmm maybe also because I had 205/?? and ur going w/ 225/50/16's then it wont be so bad. I give up....good luck and def post back some info when u get them so I don't lose any sleep

The problem might be the significant size difference among the tires compared to the 16's and the 17's....if you get 16's you want to put larger tires so that way the circumference will even out with the 17's...

Okay, but you guys are forgetting the whole point of these. They are not being put on to look good, they are there to help with traction. Who cares if they are a touch smaller in OD, his tires right now are, and didnt throw any codes. The problem with the 16" dr's in a smaller size is that nobody makes any, except for Hoosier which are more like slicks than radials.

Steve I bought my BFG dr's for $160 shipped including wheels off a memeber here, and the tires still look like new. Even if they arent new as long as the cords arent showing they will be good for about a season. You wont be spinning them nor doing crazy burnouts on them, so they will last awhile. I also dont know what you are afraid of the Hoosiers. I'm sure with the SC you dont need to brake-tq much at all, so theres not much stress on the tranny at launch, and they come in the size you need.

Damn $160 with wheels is awesome.

I will probably end up with the hoosiers.

If u really want...I'll sell u my rsx wheels w/ Nitto drag radials...I only used them for like 10 runs or so and are in excellent condition...plus the rims are mint!!!! I have no local track anymore since they closed down the hamptons track and no all I have to go is to englishtown...but for me it's a 2 hour drive so I haven't gone since acura wars and I don't see myself going anytime soon. If u want them u can have them for $200 plus shipping.

If not...look into the toyo ra-1, I believe I read something somewhere that said the Ra-1 is made for drifting but was an exeptional drag tire.

Thats it, now order some hella light 16's to go with them. If ya want I found a couple styles in 16's that weigh like 13lbs

Looks like RSX wheels are 16lbs/piece, sothey are actually pretty light for a stock wheel. There are some 16's that weigh as little as 11lbs tho, but i dont know ho much $$ u plan on spending.
