Sumitomo HTR+ Review - 41K miles
I just changed my tires and thought I'd leave a review of what I replaced.
I had Sumitomo HTR+ 235/45ZR17 93W mounted on SSR Integral-GT1 17x7.5J +48 wheels on my 2003 3.2CL Type S 6MT. My car is lowered on Tien Springs with Koni adjustable dampers and has the usual Comptech suspension upgrades.
I just replaced them at 41,168 (tire) miles. They were at the wear bars in the middle, and maybe another mm or two higher at the sides. They did indeed wear more at the centerline then the sides. I kept the pressure at 37psi cold for some time as I liked the ride response, but lowered the pressure over the last year or two to 34psi then 32psi when I discovered the wear pattern.
I rotated every 5K miles in different patterns (criss-cross and side-side). These tires are non-directional so I was able to move them all around.
I've reviewed these tires before and thought they were quite decent. While they were and still are quite cheap (<$100 per) for 'ultra-high performance' all-season tires, I thought they were well made and comparable to other well respected tires. They had a rim protector which was nice. There were no fitment or balance issues. They never flattened out when I left my car parked overnight or over two weeks. I had no tram-lining issues.
As for performance, they did well in all conditions, without excelling in any single mode, as one would probably expect from this type of all-season radial. Dry traction was great for the first 10K miles, then dropped off. Wet and snow traction was respectable throughout the life of the tire. Ice was OK, but I cannot say that I really drive on iced roads.
There was really no issue with <2" of snow, but things got worse in 2-4" with more excessive oversteer and sliding. That being said, the car was still predictable and I never got stuck in the four winters that I drove them.
As I also expected, they got a bit noisy over the last 10K miles. Once again, nothing horrible nor intolerable, but noisy nonetheless.
Rating them in comparison to all-season tires, out of five total, I'd rate the Sumitomo HTR+ as follows:
Dry:
Wet:
Snow:
Ice:
Overall:
Price:Performance Ratio:
I just mounted Yokohama Advan S4 235/45ZR17 on the same rims. I wanted to try another tire have enjoyed Yokohamas in the past as well as on the other car. I think these are the first M+S tire in the Advan line and they've been getting some great reviews. We'll see how it goes...I'll give a review after I have a few 1000 miles on them.

I have the same tires except they're the HTR II's in 235/45/17. Basically they re-brand them as the second generation with minor changes. For the price they're awesome. In the dry they have good grip, but they are a bit noisy since the tires are dry. In the wet they have really good grip. I've never tested them in the snow so I might give it a go soon.

just got them from tirerack, they have sale, $73 per tire. At this price they are perfect, surely for $150 per tire you can get something nicer, but I dont see a reason to pay double.

i have HTRZ III up front on my car. GARBAGE! require excessive warming up, still dont grip well after they do warm up, 3/32 left after a mix of 7k hwy and 2k extremely spirited driving.

i expect them to act like tires period and they barely did that. if you are an even remotely aggressive driver, these arent for you. great for everyday driving in town though!
