Pillow upper mounts are the top hats you see on some coilover systems. They replace the top hats that come stock on the car. The idea behind replacing them is simple. They give the shock a more rigid mount to the body of the car, making the damper movement more linear and direct.
See, the stock top hats have rubber bushings in them, and when the suspension moves up and down the rubber bushings squish around, numbing the fine movements between the shock and the body. This makes the car ride smoother and dampens out small road imperfections.
Companies like Tein and Cusco offer "pillow-ball" upper mounts, which is a fancy way of saying they use a spherical bearing in place of the rubber bushings. This gives the shock a rigid mount to the body and very direct movement.
The advantage behind getting pillow mounts is that you can feel the road much better and steering feel is somewhat enhanced (more on Macpherson strut cars than on our wishbone Honda sus). The disadvantage to this is while you feel the road more, you really feel the road more. In the steering wheel and in you butt, you feel all the bumps you encounter. It is a lot like the effect of putting on low-profile tires. There is some cush that goes away and you get a little more jarring ride.
We offer an alternative in the form of metal-reinforced bushings. You can replace the rubber bushings in your stock top hats with these firmer units to gain better road feel without a fully rigid upper mount.
Now a lot of people notice right away that camber adjustment is available on some pillow mounts. Well, they are, but only on cars that have a Macherson-style suspension. Cars like M3s, WRXs, RSXs, etc have camber adjustment. Double-wishbone cars are deigned differently and camber is not adjusted this way. That's why us CL, TL, and TSXers need to buy camber kits to adjust camber.
Hope that answers the question.

Only the CL does because of clearance issues with the motors.
And I believe Tein does not sell the pillow mounts seperate for our set-up.

i couldn't be happier with my purchase. i paid $630 shipped for the full coilover with the upper mounts. i do wish they were damper adjustable, but im happy with them the way they are. the car feels sportier and just 'tighter' overall. stock suspension feels sluggish and sloppy.
