Also take a look at OZ wheels. Some are 14 lb wheels and they are known for their strength/construction

Take a look at Tire Rack and you can search for wheels for the CL and sort by weight.

I had 18X8 SSR comps. Those were extremely light & strong. Best rims I ever had. So good I had 2 sets on 2 different CL6's. They were in the 14lb range. Sometimes they pop up on ebay in the correct fitment.

Let me get at least one fact straght.

Is it true that every pound removed from the rim/tire is like stripping off 20 pounds of weight from the body?

If that's true my current wheels weigh a touch over 20lbs with out tires.
So a 15lb wheel without tire would be like taking off 400lbs ?
Some one please correct my math here ,because those gains sound retarded to me.
And that's not even including a lighter tire if droping down to a 17" setup.

aw man......

The weight you take off is rolling weight. The ability to rotate your wheels faster. This helps you get more power to the ground with less drivetrain loss. It's not really about overall car weight.

Rotating mass is nothing like static weigh. The benefits of running lighter wheels are exponential.

However, one downside is they are easier to spin. You have to really work on your launches.

That is a pretty big exaggeration. You would need to take unsprung weight and rotational mass/inertia into account.

Other things would be like pulley, flywheel, rotors.

Here are 2 links with info on it.

http://www.twothongs.com/Articles/Ro...nsprungWeight/

http://hpwizard.com/rotational-inertia.html

You can also read what inaccurate posted about it in his diet thread. It is post #143 on page 4.

I've read/heard the same thing. Except the rule of thumb was either 3x or 5x the weight. Not 20x the weight. So removing 20 lbs of rim would save max 100lbs of static weight.

Either way, that's just a rule of thumb. The TYPE of weight is different, so it's not just a simple conversion. However, I can definitely say that less rotating mass can make a big difference.

Don't forget, lighter wheels will also take away a little of that highway cruising length, the car will tend to slow down a bit, almost like a lighter flywheels. And traction will be more of a problem unless you counter the lower weight with a wider or sticker tire contact on the ground.

Our Legend in 18" x 8.0" is a perfect fit and weighs about 22.5 lbs each, much lighter than the OEM 17" x 7.0" wheels which weigh about 25 lbs each.

Expense is also a factor obviously.

Personal preference. 17s through 20s will fit. Though 20s look ridiculous.

8" wide +48 or +50 offset works with almost any drop. Rim size can be 17-20.
Below +48 you run into fitment issues that may require minor fender rolling/trimming/camber adjustments, or adjusting tire width if your dropped.

For performance I would go 8.5-9 inches wide, with a 17 or 18" diameter with 245 or 255 tires.
