New CT Springs are in

Installed the new Grey Comptech Springs this weekend along with a set of Tokico Illuminas and SPC Camber Kits.

Here's the Before picture with Stock springs and struts:

A shot of the Rear Struts:

And here's the After:

SPC kit is nice for adjustability, you can always crank out the kit to the negative degree before spirited driving, then go back to OEM specs.

I too never need a camber kit, but it would still be nice to have one also.

I'd rather have the ability to dial in the settings. Set the front to -.70 Camber and rear to -.50. I may have dialed in too much rear negative - feels a little tight in the rear. I'm going to let it settle a bit before I change it though. There's a lot of room to play within the settings with +/- 1 degree.

interesting i never knew you could adjust the camber like that. so when the new springs settle are you going to get an alignment? how easy is it to adjust the camber?

dang comptech really did drop the cl-s some more. if im looking at the numbers correctly that should still have a rake effect. but from the pics it looks pretty even

By new, maybe he means they fixed the "rust" problem.

Nice Comptech Pro Kit. Rear looks a tad saggy but not too bad. Definately would sag on the heavier TL though.

Those are the new Eibachs Comptech is selling now. I like them on my car but I adjusted the rear Konis up a bit to get rid of the droopy-butt. Seems like a much better spring. Car is much tighter than with the old Comptechs.

So this is a different CT sping setup? Or is it the same Eibach kit just sold through CT?

Nevermind, just saw this...http://www.comptechusa.com/store/110135cl.html

Set of 4 lowering springs, slightly firmer than stock.
About 2" lower in front and 1.7" lower in the rear.

Sounds like the Eibach Pro-kit to me.

Sure is a huge difference compared to the other CTs.

They're regular Eibachs with a Comptech logo. Good springs. Not the same drop as the old Comptechs at all though.

So I guess CT stopped making their own springs for the CLS then.

No reason not to. I got mine for free in exchange for my old rusty Comptech springs.

well, let's be honest ... Comptech replaced our $299 Comptech (Betts) springs with $199 - $238 Comptech (Eibach) springs because of customer concern over the rusting issue. If you haven't decided on whether your going to go with a full Coilover (Tein) or the spring/Koni (or Tokico) combo, than you'd be foolish to purchase these Eibach springs thru Comptech and have the pleasure of knowing that you've paid at least a 25% markup over the TireRack price for the Eibach's.

What I mean by that is Comptech's new version of spring. The Comptech/Eibach spring that they recently started selling as compared to their older Silver springs manufactured by Betts Spring Co.

They're there. These springs just use clear plastic tubing for the isolators so they're harder to see in the picture.

I can't argue with that. I actually ordered these a month ago before it was known that the new versions were OEM'ed for Comptech by Eibach. Since I already had them, I wasn't going to go through the hassle of swapping them out. I'm kind of neutral on the issue.

As a side note, Comptech still has better customer service than Eibach. I had a bad experience with Eibach about 4 years ago and got the run around on a couple of bad items.
1) One was a set of springs for my 300ZX which had the wrong front springs in the set. It took a while to get them to realize that I had the wrong springs before they corrected the mismatched set.
2) I had a bad Eibach Camber kit for my Toyota and they didn't want to deal with it. After a few calls, they finally referred me over to SPC who manufactured the kit for Eibach. SPC took care of the problem without question. That's why I'm a SPC fan use their product over others.

So what happened to all this "engineering" CT did on their springs. They were supposed to be superior because they had specfic spring rates for each corner of the car. Each spring was meant for each corner. Are the Eibach's the same way? Or are they just front & rear. Since they lower the car more now, I'm glad to have my real CT's cause that's lower then what I wanted.

I don't know if they actually had engineered a specific spring for each corner. It was just due to their quality test of the spring rate that we were able to determine the best spring for left and right. I think all springs have a variation. Comptech was able to take advantage of the variance.

Eibach does not do this individual testing so there's no way to determine which one should be left vs right. I'm sure if we measured the Eibach's, we could do the same. As it stands now, only front and rear springs.

How do you like the Illumina's? I am still pondering between the Illumina's or the HP's. I dont know if the adjustability is worth an extra $150.

I like the adjustables quite a bit. I like running my settings a bit stiffer than the HP's and I like the handling. So far, I'm still trying to get the right balance in this car. If you don't mind spending a bit more, they're worth it to give you the flexibility to tune the suspension. If you're not into that and just want a good riding strut, the HP's are fine. I ran the HP's in my 300ZX for 100K miles and they functioned fine.

If I didn't have a hookup on the Illuminas, I'd be all over the Koni adjustables in the Group Buy that Speed Distributors is doing in the Black Market right now. You may want to consider them at $550.

I can get Illumina's for almost $200 less than that, and I have read that Koni yellows are even firmer than Illumina's. I am more worried about a too firm ride than race track ready handling. Have you tried the shocks at the sfter settings? Are they floaty at all?

Konis are real bumpy over small pavement irregularities but have great control on quick turns and such. I had Bilstiens on another car and they are made to absorb small impacts and control bigger motions. Would probably be the perfect shock for this car. I like my Konis overall but they atre a little stiff.

I've got mine set at #4 right now (1 being the softest and 5 being the stiffest) It does give a pretty firm ride and not floaty at all. If you can get Illuminas at that price, I would definitely do so. You'll enjoy the ability to set it to your taste and the ability to change it based on your mood. I've also had them set as low as #2 and the ride is very comfortable - still not floaty.

What setting are you running on front and rear?
