Need your Help with RIM and TIRE size

I don't know much about rims and tires and am asking for your expertise.
I recently bought from a private seller, Banshi rims 18x7 with Falken tires (245-40-18 in front and 275-40-18 in the rear). You can only imagine how bad the rubbing is with those huge tires sticking out so much.

If I change the tires to 215-35-18, would that eliminate this problem? Also, I see that my stock rims are 6-1/2 inch wide. Will rims with 7inch width fit Ok?

Please help!

Need to search. All this is covered in detail. Is this a CLP or a CLS? You need to know the offset of the rims.
A 235-40-18 is a stock size match try & use that size. But depening on your offset & if your lowered may & may not work.

you also need to check the offset of the rims. it may be too low. 42+ offset and higher should work.

I didn't think you can get a 245 series, much less a 275 series tire on a 7 inch wheel.

thats what i was thinking.. for a 7 inch wide rim... 205's are the only size that i know that can fit on a rim that size.... you maybe even pushing it getting a 215 on there

Sorry guys, I gave you wrong info. I took the rims off and saw that the width is 7-1/2". When I bought the rims, the tires came with it so I left it on. What size tires would you recommend putting on these?
This is for a 2001 CLP, with stock springs (for now). I couldn't retreive the offset info...

Even at 7.5 a 245 and 285 series tires are way too wide. I would have to agree with brianlin that 225/40's are what you should get. And were you able to get the offset of the wheels? Since you're not dropped, you may have some more wiggle room, but you should still be higher than a +42.
