i think i speak for everyone when i say ewwwwww. let me ask you this, you ever drive down the road and see an 87 toyota corolla on aftermarket 14'' lexani knock offs? yeah well thats the way i feel about 17 and really 18s on our cars. why would you spend $1300+ for one freakin inch bigger wheel, or 1K for wheels that dont even look as good as the stocks. the people who do this are the ones who are always at the gas station putting in 5 or 7 dollars of premium gas in their car at a time. ronjon has i think just about the most beautiful 19 inch wheel available for our car, i love the inspire. if your wanting 17s, STICK WITH STOCK, they are actually good looking wheels, i have a neighbor down the street who wants mine for his older legend, his wife has 01 clS wheels on her 2nd gen TL and they look awesome. my is if your not going to lower the car, dont mess around with getting new wheels, your just going to look like "that guy". BigJack i dont want you to think im hating on you, our cars already come with very nice premium wheels, unless your going to 19 or 20 i wouldnt change them

well thats one guys opinion. my opinion is that a drop is before wheels is better. the stock ones are good looking and a drop would make your car look better. so I would use the money for a drop instead of buying rims

I am not dropping it. I have done it on other cars in my younger days and the ride quality is shit. No more drops in my future....

yeah i wouldnt listen to just one guy. hell i wouldnt listen to anyone do what you want. one guys taste is not anothers...me, i like seeing corollas with some deep dish 15in rims. that shits bad ass..but if you get some wheels i think the best lookiing on cl's are the mesh design. theres a few guys here with those, in both gens, and they are awesome..do what you want...youre the one driving it.

There are plenty of people who have dropped their cars on this site without much decrease in ride quality. Go with some H&R sports for a mild drop. Just don't slam it and you should be fine.

i diagree with this statement. i have 18's that someone spent some serious skrilla at one time. i mean they aren't huge niche wheels or anything, but they do still roll.

Late to this topic...sorry...but I put 17's on my cl and I like 'em! The 16's were fine, but I wanted a slightly cooler look, but still keeping a higher-profile tire for the ride quality. Just to make sure I didn't off-set the speedo, I made sure the wheel/tire combo was the same height and circumference as stock...so a slightly bigger wheel, and a slightly smaller profile tire!

My cl is not the s type, so I thought the standard cl wheels looked kinda...I don't know..."non-sporty"? This is the stock wheel...

Im sorry..............but i would say u r absolutely crazy if u get 17' rims on ur car. There is no point of getting rims if u don't get 19'+. If anything, keep ur stock rims and get a drop. But i deff wouldn't degrade my car with after market 17's.

drop it.

stock 01 type-S 17s.

I know you don't have the same wheels, but if you get 17s, a drop works for the look and the ride quality is maintained. I have Tein S tech springs (love em) but I have found my buddy's Comptechs give a more stock ride if that is what you are going for.

Ok sorry but those wheels look horrible

If your going to go with 17" rims thats fine, but at least go with a style that doesn't make them look even smaller. When I first looked at that pic I thought they were 15".

To the OP, buy whatever rim you like. Its just most people's theory that if your going to spend the money to upgrade you rims, you might as well increase the size to at least 18". I agree with you about ride quality and hence I will not go over 18". Im still riding on the stock rims, but I do have the H&R sport springs. The ride is slightly firmer, but in no way is it harsh or bad.

IMO, 18's with no drop suck I feel where he's coming from. He wants his car to look a little sportier without sacrifing luxury or ride quality. To each his own and to own his each. Do what makes you happy....

I'm a little late to this topic as well, but there are a few guys on here that are rollin on 17s and they actually look good. Pretty much as long as you get the right wheel, whether it's 17, 18, 19, or 20 (occasionally) the car will look good. Personally, I have 18" RJ Inspyres on my CL and I haven't had much difference in ride quality (even in PA w/ all the damn potholes). When it all comes down to it though, it's your car so if you want 17s, find some that look good on the car and go for it.

check out post #95 in the link below for a clean CL with 17s on it.
