michelin mxm4 tire bubles & other tradgedies
i've noticed a number of threads with references to tire bubbles and other tragedies in the stock type-S pilot HX MXM4 tires. :'(
any idea how prevalent this problem is??????? do i need to check the tires for bubbles every month??????
has anyone or EVERYONE filed complaints with NHTSA regarding defective michelins as a saftey hazard?????
i'm not willing to drop $500 plus on new tires for a new car just because the OEM tires are defective.
thanks.

at $20 to $25 per tire its an $80 to $100 insurance policy on an $800 set of tires. so 10% to 12.5% for tire insuance. if these bubble or fail as often as i'm afraid of that's a REALLY good suggestion.
i'm going to check w/ my local tire guys.
thanks.

Nation Tire and battery has the road hazzard warranty... I bought it when i got my girlfriend's tires.. it cost me 14 dollars....
even if the tires get slashed, they get replaced for free.. ..plus she gets free tire rotation and balance as often as she wants.

I just got a bubble on one of the original tires. What I learned from the tire guys is that there's a damn plauge of bubbles as tires are going lower and lower profile. Evidently, low profile tires are sturcturally much more susceptible to bubbles. They're seeing it in every brand. Most of the time caused by hitting a pothole. What they suggested was that you constantly check your outside sidewalls, and that you get the car up on a lift every 2,500 miles to check the insides, with oil changes, whatever. They also suggested that if you hit a pot hole hard, you immediately get it up on a lift and have your tires checked.
I should put in a free plug -- if you live in West LA I love these guys at Byron Woodley tire in Santa Monica. They're one of those great old neighborhood shops that have been around forever and everybody there really knows their shit.
Anyhow, the good news is I got a set of new Yoko AVS ES 100s and it's like the first day I got my car! I totally love it!
