Lightweight 17" wheels?

I know this may be an oxymoron, but what are excellent quality (cheap) 17" wheels. Something around $1000 set.

Thanks.

you'll have to pay for lightweight......if you want cheaper then you'll have to downsize and go to a 16 inch wheel.

Good quality, lightweight, & inexpensive 17" -- think SSR. I have the GT1 Integral (~$300/wheel). I've seen some folks with the GT3 Integral (Smitty comes to mind). About $550/wheel. Both are very nice and look great on the CL.

One of the lightest wheels available is the SSR Competition (Zapata & Lou come to mind). About $360/wheel. It also looks great on the CL as well as other cars. I've been thinking about these for my Subaru.

SSR wheels are lightweight and semi-forged, therefore also strong. Made in Japan with fitments for our car.

That's about what I paid for 'em. Outside of some initial center cap issues (now solved with help of SSR's rep and Tire Rack), they have been great.

They weigh about 13.x lbs each in the 17x8 +48.

I noticed the difference in acceleration and ride within minutes. I noticed the difference in handling and braking over the next few days.

I paid about $1400 for the set of four -- installed.

Toyo T1S 235/45ZR17 97Ws sit on them.

Am ordering a set of subzero's for the track wheels.

I went with 18x7.5 5zigen super six's hyper black\polished lip .. mounted balanced with 235\40\18 pirelli's they weighed 42.5lbs with lugnuts .. so I'm sure a set of them in 17 weighs close to 38 or so.

here are Titan's 18's...

17's are about 17 pounds

What are the stock 17s...like 28 lbs or something? I dont know if I would go 18's...the roads here suck and the ride is harsh enough...but I have always really like those ssr's.

Ohh yeah sure...show me pics of my color car with the rims I like so much....gee thanks :P hahaha

Nola, my stock 03 wheel was 24lbs. 01-02 was 26 I believe. My stock wheel and tire combo weighs bout 50lbs .. my new 18s with 235\40 weight 42.5. The ride is not that harsh at all .. perfect IMO. and that was with summer tires freezing cold

I dont race...but I also dont want bent rims. We have pot holes that could swallow a car here but I am not looking to buy right now. MAybe one day but i have to many other things Iwant first. But damn they are so good looking on the cl I think. Also the price for tires are higher in 18's than 17's...all a factor...but thanks for the info and pics

From: Miami - just one day, I would like to drive without getting cut off!
I think finding 17" wheels at less than $1k and with a >45 offset will be extremely difficult. I've been looking for awhile myself.

Tire Rack has changed the "posted" weight about 3 times in the last 3 years.

I don't know if a lb is worth much, but we weighed one on a balance beam at a local installer and it came to close to 13.8lbs.

Also, be careful when looking at the specs in the catalogs they send out and be careful with the specs shown online (if something is really important to you, double or triple check with a few different sources if possible). They have, on occasion, made a mistake that was a lot bigger. If you’re shopping around, and are "fussy", call the distributor and/or manufacturer.

I'm picking up some SSR Comps as well, but undecided between 17"s or 18"s. When you guys say 17"s are better for performance, isn't that off the line only? Performance and looks are both factors, but if my previous statement is true, I shouldn't worry about the "negative" effect of 18"s on a supercharged car, right?

You'll do fine with 18" SSRs. When you get into heavier wheels, it makes a difference between 17 and 18. The more rotational mass you have (18") the negative effects are increased braking, decreased MPG, slow off line takeoff, etc. 17" are generally used to counter all those effects above. But choosing a lightweight wheel can have little effect between 17 and 18"s (SSR, HRE, Rota, etc).
