If you could show me where you saw 800 a set, that would be great. I've seen these wheels to be >$1200 for a set.

I think he's talking about the 17's. I was quoted about 1000-1100 for the 18's without tires.

Hey guys, quick question for you. I have the 03 CL-S rims in chrome (from the factory) and was wondering if anyone knows how much more they would weigh than the non-chrome 24 lbs? I'm looking at getting the SSR GT1's as well and wondering what the difference would be. I have the Sumitomo HTR+ in 235/45/17 on them now and would just switch them to the new wheels. If the SSR wheels are 17.5 lbs each (per Tire Rack) and my current chrome wheels are approx 26 lbs (???), what would that mean to me as far as speed, cornering etc... Thanks in advance for your help!!

I can give you a "rough idea:"

1lb of weight on tire/wheel is worth about 3lbs of chassis weight. (This is a very rough figure -- so don't get carried away.)

BTW, this factor can go from about 1x to 3x. (The explanations and math are way too long to repeat here again.)

I'm just going to round off your SSR wheel weight from 17.5 to 18.
I'll use 26 for the weight of your current wheel weight.

26 - 18 = 8lbs / wheel * 4 wheels = 32 lbs (for 4 wheels)

3 * 32 lbs = 96 lbs (mult by 3x factor to get equiv. chassis weight)

You would be losing the equivalent of 96 lbs of chassis weight. This assumes a lot.

So if this were correct...what would that mean as far as performance? I have never had anything but stock rims on any of the cars I have had so I dont know what kind of difference we are talking about here. Is that a lot...would you notice right away?

One thing that I noticed when I got my SSR Comps was that changing to sticky tires adds a lot of rolling resistance. I went from the stock Michelins to 235/45 Kumho MXs. The car actually felt a bit more sluggish due to the tires. You would almost have to run the same tires on the lighter wheels to feel the difference I think.

I have had sticker tires on the stoks before...I didnt really notice any difference other than no more squeling pig noise from the stocks.
